I swear man, I thought of this as soon as I got my kryton! Sad thing is: I don't have a lathe.

Besides, yours looks much better than anything I could throw together :). Nice mod, Jay.

Thanks for the props guys! :)

But our hats go off to Kenom for designing such a great host! Yes, this Kryton EzFocus adapter gives it more functionality, but we wouldn't even bother if it wasn't such an awesome design in the first place!

Thanks man! You guys are too kind...

But feel free to spread the word to Kryton owners! :D

If you have a Kryton, this really is a very nice add on. Especially if you go with one of my Meredith or 405-G-1 glass lens modifications. :)

I'm sure you will like it Adam...

Is one of the 405-G-1 glass lens mods on your Kryton? This EzFocus adapter will go very well with the lens mod! :)
Jay
It will be yes, but the diode in my Kryton somewhat blew (only outputs like 10mW now) so I need to get it repaired first.

I did try to put your lens on, it fits fine if I have no spring at all.

If you have a couple of wraps of Teflon, you should be just fine without a spring...

I use both, but have to cut the spring in half and bend the cut end to form a clean finish. This is easy to do if desired:

Ya know I could SO see Jay making an adapter for a laserglow or whatever beam expander to fit onto the Kryton.

Something like that would probably need to thread on there Ken...

I would like to learn threading operations on the lathe. But I never have looked into it thus far. My old Atlas lathe does have this capability:

Maybe a good thing for a future project after I learn more. :)

Knurling is actually a new lathe operation for me. I just read up on it, and learned about the proper spindle speed for the size of material, bought the knurling tool, and it works great!

Re: FS: Kryton EzFocus! Focusing Adapter For Kryto

Have you considered tapping a thread for the lens(es) directly into your finger grip rather than gripping the Aixiz ring? This *might* be an improvement, since you could probably allow for a lens to focus closer to the diode, especially for the acryllic lenses. Your lathe is pretty impressive - does that mean that you do all of your work by hand? I could never manage that level of accuracy ;). Sadly, my school's main lathe is so old, it doesn't do metric threads at all (which is annoying to say the least) and the CNC lathe has been broken for the last 4 years. I have ended up spending maybe 3 hours making a heatsink, lathing and drilling by hand, whereas a CNC one would have taken less than 15 minutes to do the same work :-/

FYI, I will be buying one of your lenses as soon as I get my hosts from Rob.

Re: FS: Kryton EzFocus! Focusing Adapter For Kryto

Hey Charlie, that's a good idea about threading the EzFocus adapter onto the AixiZ nut!

Of course, it would mean more work. But I do have the 9mm Tap and Die for the AixiZ threads....

I'll kick that around a little.

Yes, I do all of my machine work on that small Atlas 6" lathe. It's old, and parts are hard to come by, but it is a very nice machine for soft metals like the 6061 aluminum that I use for all of my stuff. The spindle bearings are in great condition and I just replaced the counter shaft bearings not too long ago. So she spins smooth and true...

About the 405-G-1 glass lens, I have stock, so just let me know when your ready! :)
