Alright I have a measurement now... with a PHR @ 150mA I was getting ~100mW from an Aixiz "405" lens. With the 405-G-1 the meter hit 140mW and settled around 135mW! Not sure how I got such a huge increase over an Aixiz 405 lens (I would understand a normal acryllic or glass lens). I have now replaced the diode with an LG 10x with the flexdrive at 350mA. I did this at my house instead of Rossco's so no measurements. I can say this though, it stings my skin immediately with the laser focused to infinity!!! But this is also where I ran into an issue... it appears that not all Aixiz modules are alike; your lens barely threaded on to the module I have. Actually I had to thread and un-thread it several times to get it loose enough to work with and I had to use vice grips and pliers to get it to thread down enough to focus to inifinty. Once I got it turned down though it seemed to loosen a bit so now I can actually remove it without tools. Not the fault of the lens and I actually like it that way since now I don't have to use any teflon or springs. There is literally zero wobble in that lens... Next pay check I'm sending you a PM for a 650 lens!

Glad you got it to work...

I have not had any of these complaints since I started checking the first couple of threads where the screw driver slot is. Probably about half of the lenses need to have the threads fixed in this area by using my 9mm X .5 die...

But I test them all. In fact, I have to thread the lens all the way into an AixiZ module to mount it into my lathe. (just to make sure my lathe chuck cannot damage the threads)

I am wondering if it is a possibility that the one module is a Sure module??

The Sure modules have a tighter thread tolerance, and I must run the entire nut through my 9mm X .5 die to take the black finish off of the lens threads for it to thread into a Sure module. I also take a couple of the threads off to make sure it will fit...

Double checked with Rossco about the module... he's positive it was an Aixiz since he's never purchased a Sure module. We both think it may be some bad threads in the module itself. Either way, I like it the way it is since I don't have to use a spring or tape.

I'm glad it worked out... sounds like it's the module, but if you find something wrong with the lens, don't hesitate to PM me...

Hey Jay, I'm going to order a few more of these 405 lenses for some builds I'm doing for some friends and was wondering if it would be possible to have the focus rings ground down about 2mm??? This would solve the issue I have with the small lip on the host I'm using getting in the way.

Thank YOU!

Hey Jay, I'm going to order a few more of these 405 lenses for some builds I'm doing for some friends and was wondering if it would be possible to have the focus rings ground down about 2mm??? This would solve the issue I have with the small lip on the host I'm using getting in the way.

You mean machine the back of the focus rings 'thinner'?

I can do that yes... But the focus ring is only 4.5mm's thick, and the threaded part is probably only about 2mm's max.

So if I take 2mm's off, then there will not be any threads left to screw it onto the lens.

I can mount the lens a little deeper, but only about .5mm or so...

Also, if I mount the lens deeper, it will be more susceptible to the possibility of making contact with the diode...

So I don't recommend that. Plus, it's only about .5mm's.

What about modifying the AixiZ modules? If I knew the situation, I may be able to come up with a different fix for this issue. Can the front of the module be machined thinner to allow it to be positioned flush with the host?

If so, then that would solve the problem correct?

Just PM me a drawing of what you have in mind, and I'll see what I can come up with...

Hey Jay I actually found a simple solution. Instead of making the ring thinner all I had to do was Dremmel a slight bevel around the bottom edge of the ring. This allowed me to screw the ring all the way down. My host is barely larger in diameter than an Aixiz module and the bevelled edge of the host's barrel overhangs the edge of the Aixiz module (it's actually what keeps the module from falling out the front of the barrel). Putting a bevel on the bottom edge of the focus ring allows the lens to now screw down enough to focus the laser with the ring in place.

got my lenses these rock!! now my 12x burns even harder:eg:

Glad to hear it! :)

Cenobite9, Good deal...

Igor had me do some custom modification on some AixiZ modules for a similar sized host. I took the front of the modules down in diameter a little. So that the tip of the module could slide through and be flush with the front of the small host. (still leaving the lens threads in tact obviously)

But the module would still stop on the inside lip of the host, because I only machined maybe 1 or 2mm's back...
