Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Hey,

I just installed the new lenses on my lasers - 3 405-G-1 lenses and one Meredith for red laser, replacing 4 AixiZ lenses.
Here are the numbers:

All of the outputs below are stable average output over a period of 1 minute or so (pretty much the same as the peak in those lasers), with freshly charged batteries:

daguin 170mw BluRay:
Before: 174
After: 216
Increase: 24.14%

daguin 250mw Red:
Before: 224
After: 277
Increase: 23.66%

IgorT 110mw BluRay:
Before: 110
After: 136
Increase: 23.64%

IgorT 170mw BluRay:
Before: 170
After: 211
Increase: 24.12%

Installing the lenses was pretty easy, for two BluRay lasers I had to cut the spring, for another I simply removed it since the new lens fits tightly enough.
And there is that known weak corona around the beam in two of three lenses, but it doesn't trouble me, power increase of ~24% is worth it.

Thanks Jay for this quality product and service!

Here is a photo of how it was delivered, instructions included and the lenses are protected from dust, they all arrived very clean:

Thanks for posting back with such great detials! :)

Just curious about what meter you have, only because most are getting at least 26% increase with blu-ray...

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Hey,

I used Deluxe LaserBee I meter, just got it today actually, I hope I'll get to writing a review on it soon, and post laser measures of all my pointers with lots of numbers and graphs.

I'm not sure how to explain why most people get 26% or more increase, but I can't argue with the meter...
Perhaps the output given by the meter is higher than it really is by a constant delta, this would explain a lower increase in my measures. But the numbers I got from all my lasers suggest that it is calibrated and working well.

Well, were not talking about much of a difference anyway... (at 24.1%)

I was just curious...

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

;D Actually...

Many factors can affect what power reading you get. Even room temperature.

Some take the lens out of focus to not burn the sensor. This affects the reading too. Also, someone may forget to 'zero' the meter after their laser is in place.

Others that may be getting higher increases, may have compared to AixiZ acrylic with the back of the lens not removed. (not sure)

Anyway, just for information, all of my comparisons to AixiZ acrylic, are with the back opened...

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Hey Jay, what would the output be like if you were to have the 'input' side of the lens slightly blocked (like the with stock aixiz lens nuts) would there be a possibility of less splash?

This is what I am referencing to.

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Hmmm... I suppose that is what the design of the AixiZ acrylic is for, a rounder spot...

But I would think that with the higher power blu-rays that we are using the glass for, would burn any material unless it was metal. And also, we want all that power getting out and not reflection back toward the diode.

This is just my first 'gut' feeling on the idea, but who knows... you may have an idea there.

interested... try putting a proper sized washer before the lens :)

anyhow, I got Larry's lens and tested it today, i got numbers on the paper and will write short review/comparison to jay's lens tomorrow.

It will address your question somewhat :)

cheers

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

Hi, this 405-G-1 glass lens modification is fit into an AixiZ glass lens nut...

So it will fit an AixiZ module. Leadlight red and blu-ray modifications are normally using the AixiZ module.

So if your Leadlight is modified in this way (using an AixiZ module), then yes, this lens mod will fit right it! :)

Would be interesting to test out, I mean the amount of light being reflected back would probably be pretty minimal. Since the lens itself is reflecting back almost nothing back to the diode, and the diffuse reflection off the back of the nut shouldn't be that much. As far as burning the material, metal would be best yes, but really, I can't imagine there being enough power in the splash alone to burn/melt the back of the nut, especially if it was metal.

A good way to test how much is being blocked/reflected back is to make a mod for your lens and just do some power comparison measurements. If the % of loss is very low (and not enough power to do any real damage to the diode/back of the nut) and it gets rid of the splash...how can you lose? :)

Re: FS: 405-G-1 Glass Lens Mod-28% Increase vs Aix

OMG this lens is GREAT !
i received the lens from jay today (just the bare lens) and spend 3 hours to put it in a aixiz glass lens, had few problem but now it's ok.
I suggest to people who are not skilled "blacksmith" to invest in the jayrob mod ;)

i don't have a powermeter but here my result:
With an acrylic, i put a black paper at 1 Meter : it burn, during few second
When i put the new lens, i thought : there is no difference between the acrylic coz it burn too, but with the same time, the paper not even burned but was "holed" by the new lens ! lol i was really astonished.

+ In my opinion, i think that the collimation at good distance is better than an acrylic (just my impression)
the "splash" around the collimation is imperceptible during day, not a big drawback in night (collimation is far better)

Honnestly, im very happy with this lens ;)
Thanks Jay for providing this to us !
