Re: Threading problems

Figured I'd update you guys on the issue I was having with my lens... It seems most of the problem was the threads in the old dilapidated module head I was using. There was a bit of gunk (glue?) in the threads, but after threading it in and out of my old used module for a bit it became loose enough that it threads into a virgin module with no issue.

I've finished a build using the sidebutton host and I'm fully satisfied in every way. Thanks for the offer to replace the lens nut for me, but I'm okay with the threads under the focusing ring being a bit mangled... I was really careful with the pliers and didn't destroy the threads enough that it doesn't still screw on.

Ok...

I heard 'pliers' and figured it was trashed!

Glad it still works for you. If you have second thoughts, send it to me and I will replace the nut at no charge...

Hey Jayrob! You pros have really gotten me excited about this hobby. Unfortunately I spent my wad on flea-bay buying a blu-ray and green dpss before I stumbled onto the LP forum. I'm somewhat happy with those 2 purchases but with acrylic lens and 120mw B-ray and 70mw greenie I feel that I'll soon need some beam viagra. I have a mini-lathe so I'll create a mount for one of those AR lenses that you have. If I'm lucky I might actually have 120mw off of the B-ray. I'll try to post a pic for ID in a couple of days. ;-) *threadjack* I put some tonic water in a glass bottle and the quinine makes a nice white beam.

I have the bare lenses for $30 dollars shipped if you need one...

The work is very well done, (I am very picky), and as expected, it does make your beam much smaller-diameter, more powerfull, and a bit of "spill" around the half of the "spot", just as Jay described and posted pictures of earlier in this thread.
My meter need to be calibrated up a little, as my readings are always a bit lower than what they should be, and that is confirmed when I have Gooey Gus measure the same lasers. The percentage-increase should still be the essentially same though.

I used my Kryton with a GGW-H20l(6x)-diode driven by a Flex-Drive set to 200mA, here is are my readings:
Aixiz-acrylic 170mW
405-G-1 glass 220mW

An increase of 50mW! And it should extend the life of my diode. Keep in mind, these numbers are relative, they are likely significantly higher, but the percentage should remain constant either way.
In conclusion, I am very happy with this lens, the only down-side seams to be the tiny-pale bit of "debris" around the spot at some distances. I couldn't help but wonder, using a small-aperture in one of Jay's "Groove focus adapter " would probably completely eliminate anything but the dot, and should not reduce your power-reading significantly, probably less than 5mW.

Very happy to read that you are overall happy with it...

I think I will do some experimenting with the aperture size to see if some of the splash can be eliminated. Just guessing, but I'll bet the aperture would have to be pretty small to block any of the splash.

I am looking forward to its arrival, my blu-ray is right at 160mw now and that should bring it close to maybe 190-200 which is certainly a good thing.

You should get at least 26% increase! (vs AixiZ acrylic - back opened)

That means if you have 160mW's now, it will be over 200mW's.

I'm getting 29% increase at 405 nM with all my Jayrob lenses. The spill can't be seen over a few feet so no problem with me.

I've got a 6x Kryton at 200mw with acrylic and I can hear it pleading with me to get one of these. I just can't afford one not having a job. I can only imagine the increase of 20-28% of 200mw....

Keep up the good work jay and you can bet your butt that sooner or later I'll have one of these.

Unlike Milos' results, red didn't fare as well as I'd expected with only a 9.6% increase (vs. AixiZ glass; at $5 per lens, who's going to use acrylic with red anyways... )

Looks like the JayRob Meredith-in-AixiZ mod is not such a bad idea...

For sure you will see a 20% increase vs AixiZ acrylic with back opened (about 15% or 16% vs AixiZ glass) for red using my 'Meredith glass fit for AixiZ' lens modification...

Hey jay I finally got to the post office and picked up your lens and all I can say is OMFG I can not believe the increase in power. With a fresh set of juice cells I fired up my Laserbee 1 and my power level jumped from 158-160mw to 215-217mw after 60 secs. I almost shit and tested two more sets of batteries only to find the same results. The dot quality is better being very small and burning ability has increased in a big way. An incredible lens which is worth every penny, thanks again. I now have 215mw of blu-ray powa.

I've finally got the money together - would you be OK with robjdixon sending about half of the money to you, and me sending the rest? He owes me, and it saves on PayPal fees if he sends to you rather than through me. If you'd like, I could add a little extra (the approx. $0.50 that PP add per transaction), to cover any additional fees you might end up paying.

I just love this lens Jay! I don't have a 6X yet, but I have a PHR that is colse to 140 mW w/ acrilic and the glass lens gets it up to near 180 mW the beam at night is so much more intense, I was quite amazed! I sure hope the 6X's Igor is making me are here before long now. I better save for another lens and the great Kryton ajuster so I don't burn my fingers!

This lens is just insane, just checked it again at 217mw on a Coleman Max host PHR build. My next blu-ray will certainly be using this lens as well.

Glenn, when you get your 6X you will love it even more! It's nice on a PHR, but the increase is multiplied with the higher power you start with. I have one 6X that was at 215mW's (AixiZ acrylic back opened), and it is now at 268mW's. And my 8X went from 298mW's to 375mW's!

The 8X got a Pocket Mini EzFocus adapter installed, because at that power, it really does hurt when you accidentally get your fingers in the way!
