I might start offering the hosts again. I don't know. I need to find another source of the switches for when people melt them, so I won't have to scavenge them from otherwise good lights to do repairs.
ahh I see, well let us know

They use non-protected 18650 lithium ion's. As far as goggles i'm not sure. you'd need some that protect against 445nm with an OD rating of at least 3.

bumpity. all the 1W's and the 975mW one are still available.

Also..

I'VE LOWERED PRICES AS MUCH AS I'M GOING TO.

If your going to PM me with some lowball offer.. Your just wasting your own time as well as mine. So please choose to do something more productive with it than ask me something your just going to get told no to. No I won't take $50 for one of these.. or any other amount below what i'm asking.

I hate to be a hard-ass about this but the 5-6 PM's a day of pointlessly low offers is getting old.

I have a few more questions ... (Going to order my first 445 this weekend)

As for duty cycles, how long do you think this is safe for? I don't want to get it and end up burning out the diode the first run.

PS: I personally think these hosts are by far more preferred than the standard flashlight ones.

Well the diode isn't what I worry about these. It's the drivers. The heatsinks work just fine at keeping the diode temperature down. I've had them running well over 3 minutes. but i'm still not sure I recommend doing it regularly. At least not until I get a lot more time on my initial build that uses this driver than I have. It has around 5 hours on it now.

So for this one, these batteries should be fine?

Also, where would I be able to find some OD 2+ glasses somewhere for UNDER $150?
I can't seem to find any, for a lower price at least. I'll poke around the forums here myself, but I may very well buy your 1W. However, if I can't procure some goggles/glasses, that'll be a no-go for me.

Not sure you looked too hard. heh And I think those batteries should work fine, so long as they're non-protected.

Well, I found from some reading that a lot of the cheaper ones aren't tested at all, and some actually let through just as much as if you weren't using them at all, which is why I was skeptical of the lower priced ones.

If you would trust the ones from O-like for YOUR eyes, I'll go ahead and order those ones and buy this off you.

Generally o-like doesn't sell complete garbage, so they should be ok. Now the cheap ass ones from focalprice/dinodirect/dealextreme.. Yeah I have some of those. They're next to worthless.

Actually when it comes to those shitty t-rex goggles they do.

I have a pair and can clearly see blue through them... would not trust them with anything approaching 1W.

Talked to Susie about them a loooong time ago, and even she recommends getting better goggles than that for 1W+. (Was ordering the o-like tactical at the time.)

So my question still stands.

The cheapest I've found 2.0+ for, that are reliable, is around $50-90. If that's what has to be paid, so be it, but I'd rather shop around for some more cheap wad friendly pairs before I delve into buying something this powerful.

Basically your options are to go with this:

Laser Safety

or to invest in more expensive ones from OEM Laser Systems which are more expensive, but actually certified.

Yeah, survival lasers was the first place checked, seeing that everyone recommends them for almost everything.

I'll go ahead and start the long ass process of putting money into my PayPal.

Actually I find myself using the Eagle Pair a lot more than I use the OEM ones.

IIRC the OEM have a rating of OD7+ while the eagle pair only offer 4+ Which is still more than enough for 2W+ of power imo. The big difference is the VLT (visible light transmission) on the eagle pair is much better.

Not to say that it's bad on the OEM, but I have forgotten that I was wearing the eagle pair on a few occasions and watched tv with them on... that never happened with the oem ones.

So for the price, they are definitely the way to go
