I used a very similar host (DealExtreme: $11.99 Cree XR-E LED Flashlight Complete DIY Body Shell/Casing Kit with Driver Pill (2*CR123A/1*18650)) for myself and made a custom heatsink for it - my design is practically identical, but in one piece (and with looser tolerances - a little bit of an air-gap between the 'sink and host to be thermal-pasted), and it is one of my favourite pocket-sized hosts ever. I highly recommend Jayrob's kits to anyone interested, his work and customer dedication is second to none!

That host you linked is the exact host I use for my DIY Green kit...

And yes, it is very similar to this 18650 host. The reason I chose this host for this (red or blu-ray) mod, is that the other one that I use for my DIY Green kit does not come with a round circuit board to use in building a red or blu-ray. (just in case anyone was wondering)

Amazing host Jay!! We now have pocket sized, 3-4hour run-time lasers!

I cant believe i missed this! I so want one for my next 8x!!! that way the bats wnt go shot in an hour

I expect them any day now. I have three outstanding orders of these...

One order was shipped on 10/19, the other on 10/22, and the third on 10/23.

Sorry about the delay, but I have the heatsinks made, and will ship the kits as soon as I get my DX orders... (I just left them a hair larger on the area that may need to be machined down for the close tolerance for perfect fit)

I really like this kit, but I want to be as original as possible. Unfortunately I dont have a lathe or anything good to fabricate heatsinks. This is why I was wondering if the heatsink would fit this model. DealExtreme: $23.40 SacredFire NF-016 Cree Q5-WC 230-Lumen LED Flashlight (1*18650/2*CR123A)

I know that the outside diameter is a couple mm smaller, but if the inside was the same I would order the heatsink and a lens asap!

Crazy Jay, I shipped your 18650 kit today. (Thursday)

I soldered the jumper on the FlexDrive to the 155mA - 600mA range per your request, and set the current to 320mA's.

Hope that 8X build goes well!

P.S. If you want to set current, here's some great information from rog881 on how to do so properly using a test load that you can make. He shows a DDL driver, but it is the same procedure with any constant current driver:
It can be done - Laser driver

And in case you did not know, do not power the FlexDrive without a load. It can be damaged...

Not sure... (something about it being a 'current source mode' driver)

But I read in the documentation, that it could damage it to power it without a load:

I got the host Saturday. Now this is more like it. The double sided tape almost came loose but that was an easy fix. I have to say I like this a lot. I have to wait for the batteries to come in to test it out. Oh boy 320ma here we go!
