Default Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! 445nm, Blu-ray, or Red...

hey i was just wondering if a redilast 2900mah battery will fit inside this host.
i know that it is just under 69mm or something like that, longer than your recommended 2600mah aw18650.
i have seen test results where the redilast (rebranded panasonic) outperforms aw and most other battery manufacturers.
i have also seen people complaining that they take too much liberty with the PCB size.

just want to make sure that it will fit either stock or with a modified spring or something like that.

thanks in advance

(im a super noob btw forgive me if this is mentioned already this is my first post)

I have not tried one...

Almost 69mm long? Man it's going to be very close. I couldn't say without actually trying one...

Would you need to solder the not used lead of the diode to the negative lead for the 18650 build or no? I've seen where sometimes its needed and sometimes it isn't.
Thanks!

Default Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! 445nm, Blu-ray, or Red...

The FlexDrive is the driver...

There is room to mount the driver on top of the pill, but it is better to mount it inside the pill, because then there is room to make the heatsink a little longer. (more mass)

But if you decide to go for 1.5 Amps, that's different. In that case, I machine the top of the pill flat, and thermal glue the driver to the top of the pill so that the driver is heatsinked to the host.

So there are a few options as shown in the first post of this thread.

Just contact me via private message for ordering a kit!

Default Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! 445nm, Blu-ray, or Red...

Hi jayrob. The 18650 kit looks awesome.

Was going to PM you, but figured I'd ask here before ordering so that others may see your answers.

1.
It looks like people are able to get a 1W 445 reliably running in there? (I guess there are "better" options, but I like the form factor of the 18650). Is this correct?

2.
Should an AixiZ module be ordered separately? (5x Aixiz module for 5.6mm laser diodes (adjustable focus) [M0018] - $16.99 : Modwerx Shop) Can you do a partial copper module like this image? http://www.sonic.net/%7Ejayrob/Copper%20module%203.jpg I'm assuming that helps conduct heat away from the diode...

3.
Can you sell/adjust a FlexDrive to drive a 1W 445 diode? What output amperage would you set it at for 1W? What's the max that would be reliable? -- Assuming the driver needs to be set at about 1A for a 1W diode, this means that you don't recommend a flat machined (heatsinked) pill? That's only recommended for 1.5A+?

4.
You've said it's better to mount the driver inside the stock pill because it allows the heatsink to be slightly extended, but this seems counter-intuitive to me -- I would think that machining the stock pill would create more room for the diode heatsink... what am I missing?

5.
Regarding lenses, I seems to me that there are maybe 3 major options...
i. Aixez 405 (cleaner, less powerful)
ii. 405-G-1 (less clean, more powerful)
iii. 405-G-1 with a special retainer (cleaner than without retainer, not as clean as Aized 405, but powerful)
iv. Is there such a thing as a 445-G-1? or a 405-G-2? I feel like I saw these...

Are all these lenses suitable for a diode @ 1W

Thanks! Looking forward to your reply!

Default Re: FS: 18650 Build Kit! Easy Assembly! 445nm, Blu-ray, or Red...

No problem for 1 Watt... Copper heatsink recommended.

Yes I can make a copper module as well, but honestly, the AixiZ module is fine.

It's best to get your diode pre-installed into an AixiZ module. Even with lead wires soldered on if the seller offers it that way. I know for sure that daguin and DTR both offer it that way.

Mounting the driver inside the pill will give more room for a longer heatsink, but since all that are currently available is the V5 FlexDrive, I would recommend just going with the driver thermal glued to the top of the pill as shown in the bottom of the first post.

1.2 Amps is a good setting if your going for 1 Watt with an AixiZ 445 lens.

405-G-1 and 405-G-1 are basically the same lens. Just a different supplier, and a slightly different coating. But no real difference in power.

Most people are using the AixiZ 445 glass lens...

Just got mine today. I was expecting it to be good quality, but it's not just good, it's excellent. The tolerances are perfect on everything, and lots of attention was given to detail. jay even puts all of the components in their own separate mini ziplocks so they don't nick each other! Very impressed. Jay is also a pleasure to work with... very quick and responsive and more than willing to help out with random questions.
