I check them when i'm awake. I'm not from the US, you know..

Also, an email is a much faster way to get in touch with me. My address is in my profile.

EDIT: Again, e-mail is a MUCH better way to get in touch with me! *:
You will get a reply faster and with more info at the same time (including many pretty pictures..) *

When i'm at work, i simply can't check the forum all the time. Sometimes not at all, and then i barelly have time to check my PMs. But email gets to me at any time.

Otherwise, i am preparing a Blu Ray Laser FAQ...

But let me answer one of the more common questions now - People often ask me what duty cycle they should use with my lasers.

You DON'T have to use ANY kind of duty cycle with my lasers! NONE WHATSOEVER!

You can use them as much as you want. Don't leave the laser on for no reason, as that would simply waste a part of the diodes life for nothing, but other than that, there are no restrictions, when it comes to how long you can use the laser at once. And that goes for any power it is set to.

If you are surprised about this or want to know why, just ask.. Let's just say, they are 100% DCM-proof.
DCM = Duty Cycle Monster

Altho now, that i said it.. *:-/

I kept saying it would die, but it didn't, just to spite me. And with PHRs at high powers, it was usually so, that i said "it's gonna survive" and then POOF... Man.. What now.. Hmm.. Maybe i should keep saying, that i'm expecting it to die any moment.. Yeah, i'll do that..

But even if it dies the next time i turn it on, that doesn't change the fact, that it IS (well WAS in that case... or is it will had been?) a super-tough diode!

When i got it, and realized it is lower efficiency, than expected, i thought "just my luck". But by now it exceeded all my expectations. I'm so happy we finally have 6x's!

Default Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Well, now that i have the 6x's, it won't be long. I should have the required money together in no time.. People are going nuts over the 6x's, and every single order brings me this much closer to completion...

I can already get the lenses now, but they cost $50 + Express shipping and are unmounted. The only way to get them mounted and for less is to buy 250+ at the same time!

So at the moment, i am hoping for some more lens orders to come in, and collecting money to make a big lens order myself on top. We need to buy >250 at once.... 500 would be better, but i doubt we can reach that..

Keep in mind, this might very well be the ONE AND ONLY custom lens GB. Cos the next one would require another 250 orders.. So i want to buy as many as i can.

P.S. The lenses are the reason i was so obsessed with the 6x diodes, and why even when i had no time to be online, still followed Amk's thread (all my money was there). They are also the reason why i pulled my own 6x buy when things went bad. I want to finish the lenses ASAP as well!

Default Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Minor update....

About the 6x's

So, for the first round i offered the 6x laser at only the diode cost difference more, compared to the PHR laser.

This might change in the near future (like a week). So if anyone is thinking of getting a 6x, you might want to let me know now, while the price is still what it says in the first post of this thread. If you reserve one before the change, it counts as the old price... If/when i edit the post, the price will be higher.

I kill numerous diodes for testing purposes, just to tell you all how long your lasers will live, and to be able to recommend the best power levels, to suit your needs. On top of that, there is always a risk that a diode i get from an expensive sled, simply won't be good enough for use in the lasers (efficiency too low or some kind of damage), so i think the slightly higher 6x cost would be justified.

I hope this is understandable..

About the custom lenses

Another such change WILL happen once the lenses are in. At this point, every laser order still helps bring me one step closer to the completion of the lens project. After it is done, i will simply be trying to recover all the money i lost, during the developement of the lenses (and it wasn't little). The people, who ordered (or will order) a laser before the completion, help make it happen. Those who order afterwards, just enjoy the benefits.. So a laser with the lens installed WILL COST MORE, than if you buy a laser now and get a lens with the Group Buy.

I think this is understandable as well.

Or to make it easier to understand: The laser price won't change after the lenses are in. But the lenses will only be available at cost in the GB!

After the GB, the available lens supply will only be what I will buy with the GB (and it's hard to say if there will ever be another GB)...
And i won't sell those at cost. I'd have to be stupid to do so. Especially, since if you get the lens with the GB, you buy it for yourself, while if you get it installed in the laser, it means, i had to buy it for you up front (which is why i have to gather money now, so that i can buy a truckload with the GB, for those who will order later....).

Default Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

There is another thing i would like to mention.

It's about my all-in-one heatsink/modules. The MM-MD and the MM-FD heatsink modules designed to fit into the Romisen host and create a very solid and well protected self contained and completelly enclosed modular build.

Over the time, several people asked me, if i will ever provide just the heatsink/modules. Well, an opportunity suddenly arised, which might just make it possible.

But i would need to know how many people would be interested in them. The price would be around $20 (not sure yet), and i would then also make a tutorial for the build, for those of you, who would like to make the "same" laser by yourselves....

Since i am also thinking of having my driver PCBs made in a factory (cos i'm tired of etching), i might even be willing to sell kits. Then you could not only make a laser with the same heatsink/module and appearance, but also the same power stability (provided you know how to solder, that is)...

I realize you can already buy something, which by "pure coincidence" is almost identical to one of my heatsink/module designs, but i think at least some people would sooner buy from the person, who actually came up with it..

For now i am just interested in the number of people, who would want one (or two), and then i will see if it makes any sense to do it...

At the same time i will try to sort out the drivers.... I will not be selling the drivers alone tho. The main reason i will have them factory made is to have less work to do and to get a professional PCB with a solder mask and more comfortable part positioning, and so on, instead of the purelly hand made approach. But the result will be that i will have more PCBs, than i'll need, so.....

Default Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

And last but not least....

A small preview of two of my new models part 1 - Tiny AAA Blu Ray

This is a very tiny Blu Ray, powered by an AAA sized Li-Ion, called 10440 (altho it might soon work of 1.5 or 1.2V AAA's as well).
Since the 10440 Li-Ions do not come in protected version, the laser warns you, when the battery gets low, by blinking slowly....

I first attempted this build over half a year ago - it was meant as a favor for a forum member - but it never really worked out, due to some dificulties in the host, that were hard to overcome. Later i pretty much gave up on it, and almost forgot about it.

But just a short time ago, i mentioned it to Jayrob, asking if a certain small modification to one of the parts was possible, and before i was even done asking, he already made the prototypes, and suddenly it became a reality.

After that, i still only wanted to make four of them as presents for some friends, because it was simply meant to be a tiny low power blu ray...

But surprisingly enough, the little modification Jayrob helped me do, turned out to provide much more heatsinking, than i ever thought possible! At this moment, i actually have a 4x diode in a personal one, putting out 153mW, without a hint of overheating!

These can easily support a 120mW PHR diode without any duty cycle limitations. In fact, this tiny thing could even support a 6x diode at 200mW, however in that case, i would have to impose a strict 5 minute duty cycle on it, because if i put it in my pocket powered up for 15 minutes it gets a little bit warm.. *:

How exactly i achieved that shall remain a secret for now.. But, since i would like to start the lens GB ASAP, i decided to offer these for sale.. They would be a slightly cheaper alternative to the main PHR model...

The price will be under $200 for a PHR in one of these (much less if it can be made with a FlexDrive instead of my driver!)...
As i said, it could easily even support a 6x, but i have special plans for tiny 6x's, which shall also remain a secret for now. Let's just say, there will be a special version.

But if someone REALLY REALLY wanted a 6x in one of these, it could be set to 170-200mW, but would then be my one and only laser with duty cycle limitations. Like 5 minutes at once max. And no, i'm not kidding. I will probably put a 6x into a personal one. Or you could just wait for the "special" version, which... Well, let's just say it will be VERY SPECIAL.

Anyway, here is a photo of the tiny monster, side by side with my main model.. And people tell me my main laser is small...

(Scroll down for the other new model!)

A small preview of two of my new models part 2 - CR123 Side Button Blu Ray

This was a host i stumbled upon by pure chance, but i thought it might make a nice laser. It runs off a CR123 battery, primary or rechargable (if it's a primary, it will run it down to 2V, if it's a rechargable, it should be protected for the same reason), and has a clicky side-button, instead of a tailcap button.

It is very short, but fatter than my main model, obviously. Inside is a massive fully self contained and enclosed heatsink/module (as usual), capable of supporting both my driver and a FlexDrive in a single version, and any diode of any power that is currently available to us.

Since i got the heatsink/module prototypes just around the time when i was testing the 100mW Nichia diode, i decided to use this as a home for it.

But the power mentioned in the picture next to the CR123 beamshot is NOT what i am offering! That was just a test. The diode can not really survive that for very long. In this picture, the diode was set to 214mA and had the medium custom lens inside. It was putting out way too much power for it's own good, so i later lowered it to 202mW after a plastic lens.... At the moment, this laser is on a cycler circuit, torturing the Nichia diode inside...

Unlike most lasers, this one doesn't have the usual tiny focusing ring at the top. Instead you turn the entire top of the head to focus the laser. That same part also offers some protection from dust to the lens under it.

Since the parts for this one cost a bit more than the parts for my main model, the laser in this host would also cost a bit more... $15 more for the build and $13 for the apperture cap..

Anyway, here is a picture of the CR123 side button host by itself, and a beam shot, side by side with the tiny model.

Dave, one of the four prototypes is actually meant for you. But i wanted to surprise you..

I just perfected the design a few weeks ago (there were some minor obstacles left to overcome), but i only managed to assemble two so far with all the other work.

One is already on it's way to Jayrob, since he helped with the prototyping. But TNT actually managed to loose the package that should have been delivered to Glenn last week! (they found it in Slovenia today, one week after it should have been delivered!?! >) The one in the picture goes to Glenn, for all the help he offered to me over the time. And just yesterday i got more 4x diodes in.. I hope i find some good ones among them... The good efficiency 4x's are just the perfect power for this tiny laser!

Otherwise, there is a third model i am working on. It will be an ultra tiny Blu Ray somewhat similar to the AAA model, but that one will actually be fully capable of supporting a 6x at up to 200mW without duty cycle limitations!

I was trying to be funny, Igor. I'm not going anywhere. Nor am I worried about you. You have MUCH more interesting things in the works to me (the new lenses). I am very busy with all the new violet light I am shining around here already, thanks to your effort

Peace,
dave
