Re: FS: >110mW Blu-Rays - available

Thank you, Electron, for making the graphs! I had no idea one number would one day mean so much to me! :D

The stability of power is the result of three things:
- The current delivered by my driver never changes more than 0.3mA, regardless of the battery voltage. On a completelly empty battery, the current is less than 0.3mA lower, than on a full battery. Basically, you get the exact "same" power (only influenced by ambient temperature) every time you turn the laser on, untill the very moment the battery shuts down.

- The all-in-one heatsink/module has threads on the outside, that allow it to screw directly into the head of the host, creating good thermal pathways into it, (especially, when fully tightened in) and making the entire body a secondary heatsink, that prevents the first one from saturating.

- The high efficiency of the driver means, that it creates no heat worth mentioning. The diode is the "only" source of heat, that has to be taken care of.

All three factors play a big role in making such a small laser stable, giving it a good duty cycle even at a high power.
I once left my 420mA open can in this build powered on for half an hour by accident, and it did not climb above body temp! It just stopped there...

The blu rays actually warm up faster from being held in your hand, than from being powered up!

Man, IgorT wasn't kidding, the pictures don't really do justice to how great this little host is! Its perfectly balanced and it fits very well in my hand

IgorT's Beautiful rebuilds

THANKS TO IGOR for the absolutely WONDERFUL rebuild of my Dorcy Jrs. This probably doesn't belong here but I am doing this to encourage anyone who is considering or worried about his builds that HIS WORK IS ABSOLUTELY TOP NOTCH!!!!!! I recently purchased 2 Dorcy Jrs and had nothing but problems with them. The build was so inferior that merely focusing them caused them to break. I was ready to pitch them until I showed pictures to Igor and he encouraged me to ship them to him and " he would do what he could with them". Well, to say that he "fixed" them would be akin to saying a hurricane is a rain shower!!! Igor took the time and effort to completely rebuild them starting with custom ordered heatsinks and flexdrives (flexdrives not custom). The thought prosess and time he must have spent was above and beyond. I strongly encourage anyone who is thinking of ordering his blu-rays to do so!!!!

Re: FS: >110mW Blu-Rays - available

I just wanted to mention again that you can not possibly regret purchasing a laser from Igor.

His service is simply the best. It's like you're buying a nice luxury car, but he's the salesman that's actually good, knowledgable and not too pushy.

Really, if you're interested in lasers the information you'll get from buying and conversating with him is worth part of the price.

Great laser. Really, really nice. Everything is made to size for the host and because of that it's really sturdy and non-shaky.

If you want a Blu-ray laser, get one from Igor. The difference in price to other ones (I don't know the market price for them but I'm sure people advertise a lower price) is negligable since these ones last for a really long time, and if you do manage to break it, you can send it back for repairs. You mustn't forget the custom manufacturing that goes into these lasers.

Hey lam! Where have you been so long? I thought you quit the hobby after not hearing from you again.

EDIT:

Here are a couple of before and after pics of the work he did on my Dorcy's.

Thanks for the pics and your kind words, Rick. Rebuilding your lasers made me want to make a couple Dorcy's for myself.. Need to post the pictures...

I could never quit the hobby... :p

I just managed to put it on my lower priorities list (Don't see me as a heretic now!)

Because... I had some higher priorities, but no need to go into that. I did feel I had to say something all that time but never got round to it.

It's not broken! But I meant, you have a warranty on it.

I never sent it back to you... did I? ;D

Heh. It almost sounded like you had an accident.

Glad to hear the diode is holding up at the higher power.. :)

Do you make your own heatsinks for the romisen flashlights IgorT.
Or do you get them custom ade by someone else.
The laser looks beautiful.
