Re: FS: >80mW Blu-Rays, two models: GONE!

Wow, if a 80mw on almost empty batteries can do that, I'll love to see my IgorT >100mw bluray in action! :D
And Igor, can you give an estimate of when you will be able to ship these lasers, I am so excited. :) It's not that I think that you work slowly, I understand that it takes some time to get the nice "free stuff" that is included. But frankly speaking, patience is umm... well, it's NOT my best side. ;D

Man, i completely understand. I was hoping it would go faster. The free stuff is not the biggest problem. The biggest delay came from the DX screwup.

I had to completelly redesign the driver, to make it fit into the slightly different hosts i received. I put the new drivers together yesterday and today i was testing them all, together with a large pile of diodes i received on Wednesday.. ;) So from this point on, it's smooth sailing. Since you are not so far away, i can now tell you, that you'll have your laser in your hands before the end of next week.

If i should not be able to finish the free-stuff by Monday as well, i'll just send it separately, so you don't have to wait for the laser.

Oh, that laser is a mini-box laser, that uses a 317 driver and a 9V cell (there was hardly enough space for the battery). Unfortunately, this means it drops out of regulation at 8V already, and the current slowly starts dropping, but cycling two Ni-MHs should work just fine. I should have gone with three Li-Ions, but Alex was too impatient to wait.. :)

While the laser is in regulation, the current is always the same, and so is the power (varying slightly with heat). The driver in the "real thing" works in a different way, and the current would stay the same down to 2.4V, but the battery protection kicks in at 2.7V and the laser shuts down. The power doesn't slowly drop, but is constant until the battery is completely empty.

Then it just shuts down, and scares you half to death, until you remember to replace the battery.. ;) After it happens three times, you stop being scared.

I trust everyone has the batteries and chargers by now? I have a limited supply of batteries (more coming soon) and no chargers (can't import them in a larger quantity due to our anal customs - for them six is a large quantity)..

The laser in my hand before end of next week - lookin' GOOD! :)
I ordered a charger and batteries from DX last friday, so they should at least be here at the time when I will get your laser. But it is DX, so who knows.

Very OT, but what's up with the repz system? It's gone. :-?

Yep, i sent Alex's "mini brick" on Tuesday and it came on Thursday! They said four days at the post office, so this might have been an exception, but around four days is standard for shipping to EU countries.

Noticed that. The forum went into maintenance mode, and when it came back, the rep system was gone.

Hope that the rep system isn't away for good... :( It's a good way to tell if somebody is trustable or not, and it's not possible to be a scammer around here because everyone can see the bad reputation that the jerk has. It also shows who the great, experienced members are. ;)
Anyway, I hope that my shipping will be as fast as Alex:s, I am so impatient. :-[

It should be there on Friday. You'll have the DX stuff by then as well. To EU DX usually takes 10 days, if it's in stock, or 6-7 days after it leaves HK.

When did they ship your order?

Stop it now!!! I am too envious and can't wait! ;D
Was the beam very visible? Damn, I can't stand this much longer.

Re: FS: >80mW Blu-Rays, two models: GONE!

It's hard to describe the visibility of the beam.

If you have a 200mW red and an 80mW Blu Ray side by side pointed at you, outside at night, the red would seem to be brighter, but the Blu Ray is somehow more visible.

Pointed away from you, the Blu Ray is MUCH more visible. Surprisingly visible actually. This is because of the properties of our atmosphere.

P.S. I'll use expedited shipping. ;)

Re: FS: >80mW Blu-Rays, two models: GONE!

That is because the atmosphere scatters shorter wavelengths better than longer ones, right? Another example is if you use a green and a red pointed at you, the difference in brightness is not enormous. But if you point them away from you, you can hardly see the red one while the green is still very visible.

Yeah, it's because of the scattering. And when your eyes adapt to the darkness, the peak sensitivity shifts towards blue a little as well.

Re: FS: >80mW Blu-Rays, two models: GONE!

EDIT: All answered.

Unless someone gives up a spot, the lasers will be available again in about a week. First i need to send out all of these. You can still express interest and wait a bit, but the price will be higher after the first two rounds are finished..

After the lenses are in, the lasers will be available with them, yes. The price will be a little higher + cost of lens..
I do not know the power they will have with the lenses at a certain current. 30% more than acrylics is a reasonable expectation. Could be more, shouldn't be less.

Re: FS: >80mW Blu-Rays, two models: GONE!

I can ship out the second batch as soon as i get the custom heatsinks for them.. They were shipped from the US over a week ago with EMS express, so they should come any day now.

I am waiting for the notice from the customs, that i can bring them my liver and a lung for the custom fees and taxes, at the moment.. Hmm, i wonder if they have to be MY liver and lung?
