The EZ-focus looks really good on your Laser FrancoRob, its got to be real easy to focus your laser now; how much do these cost? Great pictures, keep up the good work.

brtaman:

the picts show the lens focused at a distance of a little bit less than three meters, this just to help members to understand how is the "gap". For me, having it in my hands, it's the "perfect" complement for a "perfect" lazor (as Igor says)....

Yes, Joe, I confirm: 20.0 US$ (for the Ez Focus adapter), while 55.0 US$ for the lens nut assy. Total: 75.0 US$

But they worth each cent....

Default Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

In other news, Glenn is my second 8x build, mine is the third.

I need a diode for more lens tests, as i noticed there was barelly any splatter with these!

When making Franco's laser, i noticed, they look much better than PHRs and GGWs with Jay's glass lens! (Maybe i should give Lens-2 another try!)

Glenn gets his for all the help he offered over more than a year with importing diodes..

He helps all of us get diodes cheaper, so he deserves to get an 8x build for the cost of a new drive.. He will have to harvest them anyway, and we probably share USPS Express with yet another future 8x club member which was introduced by Timur (or they may even wait for a 12x!)!

When Dave's diode arrives, that will make 5 8x lasers... Dave's diode is an LG!

Looking forward to building them for you guys, the drivers will be ready for your future diodes, when they get here...

Each 8x diode deserves a full plot just for statistical data alone! Same as Franco's..

Traveller, maybe it's time for you to ask for your bonus build! You deserve one as well....

The more diodes we get at once, the lower the shared shipping cost!

Every EU batch 2 member deserves something special, i finally managed to pretest the LOCs last night!

Altho maybe you'd prefer a 140-150mW Keychain 6x?

Now that i finally know most of my diodes, i could do that instead!

So i propose a new offer to the LOC bonus build guys..

A free keychain, FlexDrive powered 6x at 140-150mW with one of the many lower efficiency diodes.

I have three Keychain hosts left, and MANY Tiny AAA hosts.

I figure you already covered a low efficiency diode and driver, so why not do that instead of LOCs? I'll donate the hosts and machined modules..

You'll probably like BluRays better anyway, and use them more...
I know i do.

I don't have any sidebutton hosts left!

But i could order one for you if you place a real order.

With a FlexDrive i think it would come to around $185...

Is that good?

My drivers take too long to make so i have to charge more.....

But i remembered how to make FlexDrives ~1mA stable!
It's a little "secret" called an SMD capacitor.
It needs one on the input side.

For a PHR i'd gladly use a FlexDrive...

igor,

does this mean you found a good 8x diode?
if so, what about the 6x to 8x upgrade we talked about earlier?

what is the power of the 8x's?

Jayrob made me some very sick heatsinks for two hosts, including the CR123 host.

I have to take some photos and upload them.

They look wicked with the focusing adaptors!

Otherwise, Franco, i love what you did with the laser! You even kept the gaps that are present in the host at the top, i like what it looks like!

Even more, since it's one of the last silver hosts i had, and looks great with an aluminum focusing adaptor!

It's the cost of the drive, Sam...

It requires ordering a $170 drive and getting it to me. Since i like using USPS Express for expensive diodes, it's better to use combined shipping....

It's perfect: no damage at all on the threads, the adapter is worked flawlessly, no burrs, nothing to cons.

The measurements I gave to Jay were such to obtain the same threads length of the lens fitted on a Aixiz nut, but I was anxious to see if the original gap was too excessive or not, while transferred on a wider nut like the Ez: well, IMHO it's a perfect marriage with the slot which split the front side from the central body of the host. Off course, if one is willing to have a less visible split between the adapter and the host, the Aixiz nut may have a 0.5 mm deeper seating in the EzFocus.

Now, also if the IgorT V3 heatsink has narrow threads to reduce the wobbling, the wider diameter of the adapter helps moving (screws and unscrews) more easily than with the simple Aixiz nut, so I added a single layer of teflon thin tape just to cover the visible threads of the lens nut: the result is perfect, as the EzFocus ring doesn't move freely, but require the right strength to change the focus.

Well, words are needed to explain, but nothing better than some picts, so here they are....

Really nice FrancoRob! Glad you like it...

I normally go for a smaller gap between the EzFocus adapter and host, but not having the laser in hand, and just going off of your measurements, I think we did pretty good! You must have some gap in order to leave room for some long distance focusing. But I do like to minimize the gap more than that normally.

This gap can have some adjustment by moving the module a little. (in most builds) But with Igor's new heatsink, there is no module to be able to move. So the EzFocus adapter must be fit perfectly.

Also, The front of the AixiZ focus ring could easily be shaved down some on the lathe before gluing it into the adapter. (and then trim the tiny 'skirt' on the adapter a little) This would adjust the gap as well...

And then there is the position of the lens inside the nut. But I would rather not mess with that.

And finally, the gap can be affected by the diode position. I have always pressed my diodes 'flush'. And then adjusted the 'thickness' of the AixiZ focus ring if needed. So my measurements are based on a 'flush pressed' diode. (but in this case, FrancoRob took measurements on his laser/lens position, and I went from there)

One last thing I would like to mention, is that the EzFocus adapter measurements are designed for use with my 405-G-1 glass lens modification. But when we get going on Igor's lenses, it will be easy to adjust the adapter design to work with either lens. And again, if your laser uses an AixiZ module with a set screw design, the gap can have some adjustment in module positioning...

Correct, $20 dollars as mentioned a couple of posts above.

Yes, Dark, you can CONTRIBUTE, when you stop hiding the facts!

How can you achieve 400mW+ at 265mA? Do share...

Franco's diode was a GOOD one! A freak like Daguin's, that could be set to 500mW+ if i tried!

I wanted to edit my last post, but i double checked...
And now I'm sticking with what i said!

Even a good 8x is not even close to 400mW+ at 265mA!

Maybe you found ONE diode that did <400mW at 265mA, if so can you please show me it's plot, or you don't do those?

How do you determine a diode's optimal current?!? How do you adjust it to a diode?

No doubt you use a kind of dummy to set drivers, but what do you use to test the diode?

How do you determine the current for the DIODE to be set TO?

Do share, and contribute please.
