Nice beam shot comparison!

I trust your measurements were right on the money for the custom EzFocus adapter. Please show pictures of it installed when you get it!

Default Re: FS: >110mW PHR, >140mW 4x & >170mW 6x Blu-Rays

Just got my v3 heatsinks today!! along with a few free goodies...so far the v3 is great, thanks Igor.

Anyway here is my review.

They are very nice CNC machined heatsinks, very precise and it fits together tightly. One thing I noticed right away was that the aixiz lens fits in this heatsink better than in the aixiz module itself... very little wobble with my aixiz acrylic and ZERO wobble with a jayrob 405-g-1... the threads are tight enough that it eliminates the need for a spring when using jayrobs lens.

I bought two of the heatsinks and I will build a classic IgorT with the other one when I get time.

First I built this little mini laser. I bought this host thinking that I could use a pocket mini heatsink with it... but nope. So when my v3 heatsinks got here I gave it a try and it fit perfect!

Diode pressing was just as easy as an aixiz, I used another PHR but I set it to 150mA so that it dies by next month, I want this to be my 8x build. Also a lava drive must be used with the v3 because a rkcstr simply wont fit.

The link to the host= DealExtreme: $13.50 RC-C3 Cree LED Flashlight Gray (1.3V~4V CR123A)

Here is a picture of the stock PCB closing off the v3 module...perfect fit just like the classic. This mini laser is a twisty switch on/off

(EDIT: my 405 lens has gotten used to the threads now and I need to use my spring.)

Only a tiny bit smaller than a pocket mini. The threads on the inside are what prevent my mini hs from fitting but the v3 has a smaller diameter to work with.

Yes, per his measurements...

I am waiting for it to get to him so we can see how it turned out. I mean it is perfect, but what I mean is, that the 'fit' will depend on where the lens sits at focus in relation to the front of the laser. So the EzFocus adapter design must be perfectly fit to minimize the gap between the adapter and the host.

FrancoRob took some measurements, and gave me a drawing for the sizing...

I decided to use a v3 heatsink on yours when Lava told me his new driver will be 1mm shorter than mine. The size fits the v3 HS. Didn't cost you much, cos you had to wait for me to get the new drivers from Lava.

I also used it cos it fit better than the heatsink you sent me, but yours fits another host nicelly (shorter host) i can use it for a laser, so i think it's all good in the end..

It worked out ok..

Use the protected batteries please...

Yes, i can make the PIV plots now, for individual lasers, since all the data is in.

EDIT: Your diode measured in at 193mW at the end of the 200mA slope. I use the differential efficiency, to calculate your current, i was aiming at 191mA to reach 189mW..

Since i took the power requests as a minimum, every laser was always calculated to have 3-5mW more, yours just came out a little higher in the end, but 189mW is a good power if the 6x diode is as good as mine, and it seems to have been slightly better..

Some diodes came out a little higher in the end than others, but usually i'd see ~5mW more when a laser was finished, compared to the pre-testing setup due to heatsinking differences between a laser build and the pre-testing setup.

I can make your diode's plot after i finish the current lasers.

EDIT 2: I marked your diode with a circle. That's yours up there, after better heatsinking, but set to a lower current to reach a safe power of 189mW..
It was more efficient than the pre-testing indicated, so you got almost 190mW in the end. 1mW short of next power...

Your diode is actually better than my first GGW from a drive that cost me $300 to get!!!

I corrected the plot for the heatsinking difference in your laser, it's a bit of work, i'll need a day to do all.... If i finish the bonus reds over the weekend, I'll be able to do it Monday. Shouldn't be too hard with mostly FlexDrive builds....

EDIT 3: I stupidly forgot to attach the corrected GGW PIV batch plot!!

The diode used in your laser, Traveller, is the one circled, at almost 197mW peak but set lower to produce 189mW!

Sorry for the silly mistake! I will make your individual, diode specific PIV plot tonight!

This was a host i stumbled upon by pure chance, but i thought it might make a nice laser. It runs off a CR123 battery, primary or rechargable (if it's a primary, it will run it down to 2V, if it's a rechargable, it should be protected for the same reason), and has a clicky side-button, instead of a tailcap button.

It is very short, but fatter than my main model, obviously. Inside is a massive fully self contained and enclosed heatsink/module (as usual), capable of supporting both my driver and a FlexDrive in a single version, and any diode of any power that is currently available to us.

Since i got the heatsink/module prototypes just around the time when i was testing the 100mW Nichia diode, i decided to use this as a home for it.

But the power mentioned in the picture next to the CR123 beamshot is NOT what i am offering! That was just a test. The diode can not really survive that for very long. In this picture, the diode was set to 214mA and had the medium custom lens inside. It was putting out way too much power for it's own good, so i later lowered it to 202mW after a plastic lens.... At the moment, this laser is on a cycler circuit, torturing the Nichia diode inside...

Unlike most lasers, this one doesn't have the usual tiny focusing ring at the top. Instead you turn the entire top of the head to focus the laser. That same part also offers some protection from dust to the lens under it.

Since the parts for this one cost a bit more than the parts for my main model, the laser in this host would also cost a bit more... $15 more for the build and $13 for the apperture cap..

Anyway, here is a picture of the CR123 side button host by itself, and a beam shot, side by side with the tiny model.
i want one of these.how much is it?a phr one.

Oh, finally to-day the postman has brought me the "cherry on top of the cake"! That is, the JayRob EzFocus adapter!
It's perfect: no damage at all on the threads, the adapter is worked flawlessly, no burrs, nothing to cons.

The measurements I gave to Jay were such to obtain the same threads length of the lens fitted on a Aixiz nut, but I was anxious to see if the original gap was too excessive or not, while transferred on a wider nut like the Ez: well, IMHO it's a perfect marriage with the slot which split the front side from the central body of the host. Off course, if one is willing to have a less visible split between the adapter and the host, the Aixiz nut may have a 0.5 mm deeper seating in the EzFocus.

Now, also if the IgorT V3 heatsink has narrow threads to reduce the wobbling, the wider diameter of the adapter helps moving (screws and unscrews) more easily than with the simple Aixiz nut, so I added a single layer of teflon thin tape just to cover the visible threads of the lens nut: the result is perfect, as the EzFocus ring doesn't move freely, but require the right strength to change the focus.

Well, words are needed to explain, but nothing better than some picts, so here they are....

Wow, looking good FrancoRob.

That EZ-focus adapter really completes the build, very nice.
