Yes! It worked! It's all back to normal now! Yaay! :D

Altho i must say, there were smileys i liked much more in the old style forum.. :(

But at least i'm getting a hang of things....

I think it's time to reveal what i've been working on (for the laser evolution i mean) before my life exploded (but still got it done)... But it'll take a lot of explaining too.. So i'll need some time to put it all together.

Glad to hear it! I love vBulletin as a forum app :can: so I had nothing against the migration... .

Now it's time for this thread to get back to those super-duper-6X-lasers of yours... :D

Well, technically you didn't bring me good luck, but the timing seemed to. Just after you posted, I was able to take a red diode from the LPC sled up to 470ma with my diy DDL driver. I used a 0.12 ohm 1W resistor in series with a 100 ohm trimpot to dial in any current that I want and it seems to be working at a reasonable temp. I'm using 2 cr123 in series for 6V. So I will give you the credit anyway. ;-)

Ok, there are a few problems in your statement, and i would like to help...

How do you know your LPC (= open can, right) is at 470mA? Did a dummy load say so?

You said you are using two CR123's in series for 6v's and an LM317 current source. Well, that just won't do. The driver itself swallows 3V and the open can needs more than 3V for 470mA, so you have some V's missing there, buddy..

I don't know why all those instructions for an LM317 say to use 6V. 6V is the minimum, where regulation cuts off. If you want actual constant current, you need your voltage ABOVE that.

Lets say you want a laser that uses an LM317 and stays in regulation over the entire (almost) battery voltage range...

You need two CR123 RECHARGABLES (= Li-Ions), rated at 3.6V. They are 4.2V when full, and 3V (or down to 2.7V) when empty.

This would give you constant current right down till they are almost empty, and your laser would be at the same power (or rather current) every time you turned it on.

If you however use two CR123 primaries (= non-rechargable Lithiums), then your laser might (and i bolded "might" for a reason) be in regulatin when they are completelly fresh, for a few seconds. The diode would get the full current. After that the current would start dropping every time you used the laser. That's not how it's supposed to work.

The idea is, that the diode gets the same current every time you turn the laser on, and not just when the batteries are completelly full.

Unless i completelly misunderstood you and you ARE using Li-Ions, then disregard the above, you're all good.

Otherwise, this can even be a recipie for disaster.

Let's say you set the current with too little voltage. Then you put in fresh batteries and the driver gets enough voltage. You think you set it to one current, but it wasn't getting the voltage needed at that time, so suddenly it jumps to the real setting and kills your diode at power-up.

I must have written this exact same post about a hundred times around various threads of this forum......

Anyway, are you understanding me? Seeing the problem? Or am i misunderstanding you?

Hehe, indeed, let's do that. But first let's make sure everyone got their stuff. If someone has ANY kind of problem, just email me, if you have a problem, you have my g-mail address. Write me, and i'll fix the problem ASAP, and if it's my fault, i'll make it up to you.

Having said that, there is also another thing of concern... Servicing the old laser builds.... I can't make diodes live forever, even the manufacturers put a disclaimer in their datasheet, that a diode can die randomly at any time, statistically speaking. If ANYONE is in need of a diode replacement, EMAIL ME ASAP, to arrange it.. And while you're at it, consider an upgrade to a tougher diode or something.. I would hate to think someone has a laser they can't use, just cos a diode gave up! PLEASE write me, i WANT to replace the diode so you can enjoy your laser again! I mean, i don't get many servicing requests, and when i do it's often just a dirty lens and not a dead diode.. :D (that's what happens if you don't use the lens caps! Jesus people, i include them for a REASON!)...

I'd like to think, that anyone with any problem would write me, so i can help, ok? Don't be afraid of anything, even if you broke it with a sledge-hammer. We'll figure something out... In the end it might even be better than at the start. ;) Just write. I am very friendly, i don't bite, and i WILL help, if it's my build!!

Ok, that's something i had to say. Again, i don't want my build laying around in a drawer collecting dust, just cos it needs a new diode!!! Diodes die all the time. Especially when overdriven, and that's what we do. Altho i try to keep the powers to a reasonable levels - take a look at the first pages of this thread.... I'm hoping that's the reason for the lack of servicing requests... If not, bring it on.

Oh, Traveller. You asked me to build you something special. You wanted the first 8x build from me... I'm sorry, but that has just become an official MindTech R&D project for Franco... You can have the second one (if you don't count my own (which i'm gonna torture the hell out of) that is), ok? I promisse.....

You changed your bonus build wish to something else entirelly anyways. We can even go deluxe, if i get a host availability answer.....

If i forgot anything, just let me know guys. I'm here to sort things out, and after that, to continue the research and developement of these cute things called lazores (or rather the diodes we put in them)...

Ok, i am posting this separatelly, just so it stands out:

I enabled availability of my email through my profile (like it was before forum change), and even forwarded PMs to it... So just click my name on the left, and it will lead you to my email (gmail)....
My g-mail has been reactivated and mostly cleaned up, if someone did not get a reply write again to get to the top, please..

I hope all these new settings work. If you want to get in touch, write me AN EMAIL, NOT a PM! I will answer PM's, but i'll answer emails faster......

Things are slowly returning to normal, and i will be available for everyone... You should get a reply at least once a day if not more. Unless of course i'm finishing a batch. Then you will still get a reply but it will be shorter, telling you i'm working.

Also in the future, everyone in a batch will get an emergency email line to me (which reaches me even if i have to work 24/7) as well as my phone numbers JUST IN CASE!

But i worked my ass off (till i dropped down half dead) over the past months, to get rid of the piled up work, so something like this would never happen again..... So it won't be needed, but you'll have it, just to feel better (in case anyone still has any concerns after everyone who waited is sorted out with what they paid for and more).....

Ok, i hope that's all....

Next i need to show and explain the v3's, then the lenses, and of course start the favor collection thingy... :)

Igor all the text boxes have smiles, bold, text size, ect. If you are not seeing them it might be on your end, I'd PM Avery (C0ld) to help you work it out. As far as I know you are the only one with that issue.

Once you get used to the new forum you will find its quite useful. Plus it has a ton more options than the old forum.

No, it was a WhatYouSeeIsWhatYouGet thingy.. I just had to select that, and it was all good.

Anyhoo. How is that PHR doing? Still alive? :D

Hey Igor, fantastic to hear that you're back in business again! It feels really good to have you back here, and to know that you managed everything.

What a coincidence, I've not visited the forum in a long time, and I somehow chose to come during the days when you say that you're back!

Oh BTW, my PHR is still alive and kicking... Must have been a tough diode you picked for me :D

Heheh, didn't i completelly rebuild your laser for free?!? Did you forget, that you first chose a cheaper option, and that i later made it into what is now called my "Classic" host, with a new diode driver heatsink and everything...

Your OLD diode on the other hand is.. Well.. It's hmm. Undead. It's a zombie. But not like the dead zombies. Your's is actually one of those juicy fresh zombies still moving around and craving brainz.... It's the diode where i got the 43% increase with the short FL custom lens!

You have a new diode in your hands now and a new everything, my friend... ;)

Hahaha Igor, of course I remember that you replaced the diode, host and everything - maybe I didn't say what I meant clearly enough. What I mean is that I've used it (the new one) a LOT almost every day, it has survived drops, been accidentally left on for almost an hour etc. In other words a tough PHR (even considering that most of them are)!

I didn't expect the old one to be that good though, a 43% increase is absolutley awesome. Imagine one of those lenses with an 8x! :D

The old one is not good, it's (un)dead, and the little juicyness it has left is flowing out fast (i have no brainz to feed it).

The reason for the incredible power increase is it's horrible zombie-beam profile. That's NOT a good thing.

Ok, i already got in three of the favor-build requests, everyone else expecting a "favor" or "counter-favor" or whatnot of any sort, drop me an email and use the subject, hmm... "Step 2" maybe? I don't know what else would make sense, cos it varies so much (i haven't forgotten!)...

So just write to my G-Mail and use that subject, i can organise things in g-mail nicelly (label them and make important info easy to find - and more importantly, label them automatically, if they have that subject!), and i'll do my best to get it all done ASAP.

Now that i slept off those three weeks of 24/7 work-binge, my energy is returning, and i think i'll even have fun doing it. :)

So, again, if i promissed something, do not be shy, i WANT to make it, so please write me, to help me organise, (and in some cases remember the details...)

There, that's a good second step...

However, please understand, that making all this will cost me, and i am not very rich at this very moment, so i'll just do Batch #3 real quick, to get some money in and buy more parts, so i am not all out, when it's all done, ok? **

I mean, i'm making the drivers for both (Batch #3 and various favors) simultaneously. And the drivers are the hard part (besides the packaging - i hate packaging, making sure that all the optics are clean and all). Once the drivers are done, it's all just four solder points. ;) (and packaging :()

So that's why i am making a MASS of drivers, to have enough for everyone....

** There is a massive amount of packages from DX and KD (hosts and other important stuff) that didn't make it to me, cos they all shipped everything at the same time (after chinese new year), and our customs got suspicious when they all arrived at once on the same day! Unfortunatelly that was at a time, when i was running around like crazy, fetching copies of paperwork, and didn't even know the customs sent all my stuff back to China!! I am just barelly convincing DX and KD to re-ship it, cos it's a LOT of stuff worth a LOT of dough. But i'm asking them to re-ship the packages with a few days in between, so our customs don't get too excited again. Did i mention i hate our customs?
