I have seen some able to run to 700mA for a long time and I have seen some LED instantly @ 600mA. Going over 500mA on them is a crap shoot.

Linear drivers are the most stable hands down...

Don't they have heat issues? AnthoT I want one of your boost drivers, I just dont want to have to wait a month for DTR or Cajunlasers to stock a 500mA one :(

you're going to run into a voltage shortage running a 12x off of two li-ions with any linear current regulator: 6Vf + 2.3VDo (at least) is more than what two Lions can reliably supply while being drawn

Well 450mA is a much safer current, 500mA is the max, you will get a longer life at 450mA & 500mA will possibly give you ~50mw more & you are running it at the limit.

Your choice in the end :)

Alright. I had no idea it was only a 50mW difference. I thought it would be 100+. Anyways, here comes another order, DTR!

Yeah 450mA sounds good.

I mean, you can try higher currents but problem is, even if it doesn't LED immediately, how long is it actually gonna last? And how fast will it degrade?

Better to be safe than sorry, I say. Besides you're still talking Class IV bluray (well, with low loss single element lens, and a bit of luck).

your hopeing for 750mw.. ma is for current. mw is for laser power out.. the s06j wont take 750ma but it can output 750mw.. I killed a couple s06j's arround the 500ma range so I would suggest you keep the current to 450ma..

Yes I agree on the fox what is it doing licking a window?

The lack of quote makes me think you have replied to my post but I assume your reply is to the Baron :)

Please don't say witch such certainty that it will not take high currents, that is simply not true. There are posts on here proving that they will. However you are playing with fire and risking sudden death at these currents (just like with other diodes at higher than rated currents) for example:

http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/14x-blu-ray-burners-73191-5.html#post1059224
The diode heer is 12x S06J

Now the question I have there are several sources of 12x diodes from various burners. Lite On, Pioneer etc. Are they all using the same diode?

I think there are a few sources for the diodes but you are better of just buying a diode because all of the BR players the good ones come in will cost you more than buying a diode... I briefly looked into that.. I cant tell you what the good ones come out of but I know it will cost you more for one than just buying a diode.. Though you may end up with a red too... or a combo.. DTR sells s06j's..

Yep, that where I thought I'd get my next 12x :) but I just saw that new egg offers the 14X burners, and they are only about 8$ more expensive. I'm curious if the diode in them could be pushed a bit harder than 12x although it appears to be the same diode.. Perhaps a revised version :)

I could not answer that but I think I read that the 14x is just another take on the 12x.. and that the diode is the same.. I dont recall if that was an s06j though or not.. I have a LG 12x blue ray in this box for the last year and I think I burned something once.! I'm telling you there is nothing more hard to do than looking at a working BR burner every day and not yanking it out to pull a diode or 2... :scowl:\

Actually I guess that's why I buy extra diodes If I want to play I have something else there...
