Id test the current draw that the laser is using... If the driver was
mistaken and is not boost, there will only be a 2-300mA draw.

If the laser is drawing upward 1A or more, than something is
really wrong.

If you try to power a 445 with an AMC7135 for example, using
a single 3.6v cell, the diode will only see a little over 200mA.

Drop a second battery in, and the 7135 kicks on at full.

Test your current and you will have a better idea of what is happening.

im sorry but im a real noob in all the technical stuff...
i need some kind of noobie tutorial to do that...

but thanks for helping.

The simplest way would be to place the battery in the laser,
take a multimeter, touch one lead to the body of the laser
and the other lead to the - terminal of the battery.

Measure the current flow and see what numbers you get.

Also, dont handle that laser like its a 5mW... If for some reason
the laser decides to put out full power, you probably wont be expecting it.
Aim it somewhere safe and away from you. Better yet, put your goggles
on and treat it like its putting out 1W.

You just never know.

I hope my brother can do that....he has a multimeter. So one end of the multimeter touches the body?(the middle of the battery with no connection?) and one lead at the battery closure end of the battery? is that the plus or minus side? And do i need to do this with both the battery types?
And does the laser go on while doing this?
Thanks for your time for these noobile questions

edit: tried again with the other fully charged 18650....no effect at all, just puts out 5mw...

this might be stupid but...
in the picture he provided you can see the spring where battery + goes on to?, you also see 4 solder blobs wich seem to touch the spring and the housing.
doesnt this mean the battery is shorting itself in the battery tube?, or perhaps its case positive? would be weird though..

anyway DONT try to put the battery in reversed though might not be protected..

If the battery was shorted, it would turn into a pipe bomb long time ago.
And no blue photons would be visible what so ever.

I seriously still think he shipped the wrong laser, one with the linear driver, instead the one with boost driver. All evidence indicate so, discussed over MSN with Borg about that.

yes that does seem to be the problem.
i was just thinking out loud :p you never know these days....

people, how does a multimeter work?

EDIT: Never mind Eudaimonium helped me :)
the results are:
0.53-0.57. usally 0.56.

Eudaimonium response was: "OMG".
so he thinks there is a driver problem...
he says burning can already take place at 0.3...
but the output at my laser with a 18650 was still about 5mw...

EDIT: will ship back to RDTech, as requested...
im really pissed that from all the good lasers he sold I gotta be the one that received a not-fully working laser.
I have the burning 1W super power laser in my room, and now i gotta send it back to the states...im really really sad.
i wish i could repair it at my home...

sending monday...
more days to wait...
sigh...

:( :( :(

shipped. i do have to say im not quite happy about the comminication between RDTech and me... he always gives back very short replies and sometimes doesnt answer all my questions. maby because he doesnt like to answer noobie questions..im just a noob and careful about spending alot of money and have bad experience in the past. and this laser story so far aint going to make that experience any better :(
It was fairly cheap to ship it back. he should receive it in 4 to 6 days...that was estimated.
Now the waiting starts again...

story to be continued...

bleh.... :(

I have met Mitch and gotten a laser from him--IMO you can feel confident that he will fix and return it--asap--

being impatient is not a good thing in this 'hobby'

-you sound very young and so that is to be expected-

- relax grasshopper-

time is on your side. GO SLOW and you will GO SAFE.

I'll bet he has just been busy and cant answer every question. Until someone who knows a little bit about electronics takes a look at the laser you wont get anywhere no mater how many questions you ask. Don't get me wrong it's a good thing to ask questions, thats how we all learn.

Rdtech told you to send it back, he even offered to pay for return shipping. I would give the guy a break and see what happens before you post so much negativity.
