Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

This is a very good question and WE do need an answer !
It would seem there is no set of rules for this, I think we as a
body of people should vote on something like this, just like
the old ban polls worked, after all who is the LPF but us.

What does it take before someone is no longer allowed to do business on LPF?

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

The driver is backwards!
How do you even do that?

Upperlevel I am sorry that this happened to you, but I hope you plan on sticking around.

It seems to me that since the driver was backwards it somehow connected directly batteries>sense resistors>LD and so was drawing quite a few amps which is why it worked at first then died and also why the resistor burnt.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Definitely sticking around, so many other members make it worth it, Jeff case in point. Also received yesterday a great 450mw dilda from Dave that works fantastically and has the best beam I have had at night.

Also, from what I remember ben's laser working for a second, it was no where near as blue as this one I have now, muvh more violet. Not a bad thing tho.

I didn't even see that the first time round! Must of been in a hurry to make it.

BH needs to pay for this. Bad soldering, lack of shrink wrap, No heat sinking on the driver and the driver is in reverse!

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

NO I looked at it and it looked like a Aixiz 405 glass but I didn't want to rely on just looks so I put it in my laser and it has that nice clean dot like a Aixiz 405 makes, nothing at all like a G-1 lens.

It's a Aixiz 405 glass I'm sure !

@Flaminpyro

Did it come with a g1 lens?

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

1.8W laser... from a jib that is not heatsinked at all, and no g1 lens.

Forgetting for a second all the other issues, such as driver being backwards, no heatshrink, and piss poor soldering...

This to me seems like it's also a case of blatantly false advertising.

Also known as lying.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Didn't this unit sell for some crazy $200 + price tag too?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but surely the repairs (which in reality are basically the entire replacing of both diode and driver) won't cost more than $100?

Ben should pay the whole repair bill, not half - and even at that, he'll still be turning a profit on this laser.

What I don't get is how this even passed the "flick it on for 5 seconds to make sure it works" test, that even a non-builder would put a cheap NewWish pointer through before selling it.

My suggestion of half was before Jeff confirmed it wasn't a g1 lens....

If this was done via credit card I'd suggest Upperlevel send that pile of crap back and do a chargeback.

I absolutely HATE false advertising.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I agree Ben should pay for all the parts, driver and LD, Rpaloalto has donated $10.00 towards the repair, it will go to postage, and I am fixing it for free.
And yes if he got that much he still will make some money, even though he doesn't deserve it after making this master piece :wtf:

Yes how on earth did it pass a test run of more than a couple seconds

when I make a laser it gets run many times and sometimes even hauled around with me for a day or so just to be sure it takes a lickin' and keeps tickin' ;)

I tend to agree with InfinitusEquitas, 1.8 W from a jib drive and no heatsink and no G-1 lens, this is starting to sound like either he doesn't know what he is talking about or blatant false advertizing

and for 1.8W you should have a cherry picked diode/ a very efficient one, where did he get the diode ?

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

It was paypal, and my account got screwed over, and it was through bank and it was two payments.
Charging back isn't an option, ben just needs to own up full on.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

He'll read it at some point... he definitely lurks on this thread.

Ben... as the saying goes, speak now, or forever hold your peace.

Not sure what's there to say, except maybe to take responsibility... but now is the time.
