Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Good, now forget about Ben... he f**ked up... end of story.

PM Daguin, Jeff, or any other of half a dozen vets that have been following this thread. You might have to pay for new ld and new driver, shipping, but that's it. After that you will have a great working laser.

Honestly, having a 1.1W+ laser does not seem to add any issues to LD lifespan imho... so that's not a concern.

For 99.90% of situations though ~300mW of 445nm is more than enough. I find myself using a ~350mW 445nm more than anything else, and I use laser a lot:eek:

SO I am good with 1.8w on the diode? cool, although we never saw meter photos so it could be any output.

I already have something set up with Jeff.

I need to apologize to bwollen and clarify this... It was not
bwollen's mom I spoke to...:yabbem:Jerry

Jerry your a good man for clearing that up. Kinda funny if it was true:)

upperlevel you will be most satisfied with any work done by Jeff. Very honest and professional.
I'm sorry you had so much trouble with your first laser purchase. I hope you are not deterred from you experience and stick around LPF. Maybe even trying your skills with a simple DIY laser:yh:

Just to make sure we are all on the same page here

We are running these fairly regularly at up to 1.8A (current)

Whether it will put out 1.8W (light power) or not depends on the diode, lens, driver/battery combo, etc.

Your output (mW) will probably be less than 1.8W

Jeff will take good care of you

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I will be sending it this week.
Please keep this thread open so that Jeff can comment on the quality of the laser construction and diagnose everything when he receives it to be repaired.
I wish I could have just purchased a laser from Jeff, his communication has been stellar so far and I just know for sure I will be receiving great help and a great working laser.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Heres my take for what its worth.

Bwhollen: People use shrink tubing for a reason and you just found that reason out the hard way.

Upperlevel: If you want to talk about warranties for electronics you are shooting yourself in your own foot. Any electronics warranty will be void once you open the device up and start poking around. As soon as it didnt work correctly you should have contacted bwhollen and not disassembled one thing. You have no liability at the point as you received a broken product out of the box. Instead you opened it, diagnosed what you thought was the problem and then proceeded to at least discuss having someone else who doesnt know a thing about the parts tinker with it. If I was the seller I would also be hesitant to help you at this point as I have no way of knowing if you just broke it taking it apart out of curiosity. If the laser had been unmolested than we would know it arrived as is and broken.

Long story short there were mistakes on both ends so why not split the shipping and have Bwhollen or someone else (not the dude from greece - hes too new) fix it.

EDIT: some how I missed these previous posts. I am glad you have a solution worked out.

You are a little late to the party....;)

The issues have already been resolved..

1) bwollen puts the entire Laser issue on the Seller..

2) bwollen does not want to bend in slightest...

3) the Laser will be sent to FlaminPyro for a professional
repair at the seller's expense.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

@Ben....

If you've been following this thread... now is the time to step up... sell a laser or two from personal collection, or borrow a bit from someone.

Wait until Jeff tells you what's wrong with this laser, but come on... this isn't worth losing your reputation over. No one is even expecting you to pay the full price of the repairs.

From everything I've seen, you're not a bad guy out to scam people. The thing is sometimes a part of doing business is learning to swallow your own pride and compromising. This is one of those times.

Ben wouldn't have even helped me had I not opened it ( I'm broke, I'm broke! It can't me my problem if I have no money to fix it").

Before you opened it, that was when he was telling you to just shake the laser, correct?

Yes. But he also told me I could try soldering it before he knew it was opened.

Either way, he claims he has no means to help me anyway, no matter if I opened it or not.

This excludes you from paying half for sure...

I have some credit at flaminpyro's shop of wonders. I would like to kick in $10 bucks for any work you may need to have done. Hopefully it's just a quick solder job Then you will only be out labor and shipping minus my $10..

Not necessary. He said he would do it all for free. I would like to pay him for any larger fixes, but we will see what it needs.
I just need to pay for shipping there and shipping back. He informed me that ti would be about 7 dollars each way although that does remain to be seen when I actually take it tomorrow to the post office.
