Im sorry upperlevel that I have a school, a social life, and sports, and cant reply to your pms as if its an IM. Everyone here has a ton of different opinions and I stick by what I have offered. I offer NO warranty on any laser I sell, especially if it was taken apart. I NEVER instructed the buyer to take the laser apart to "Check it out". I offered to fix it at his expense (shipping) as I doubt the laser diode is fried, and may be just a solder fix. I have sold A LOT of lasers here and other places and I guess I have had a very unlucky run, but have resolved all other issues as fast as possible. In any case, I will continue to sell lasers here but as KITS only. This laser was tested in full before shipment so may have gotten an issue during shipment, or by the buyer, but in any case he OPENED it which voids all warranty. I have offered to fix it, but he still declines. I don't know what else I can do.
It makes no sense that you say that you offer no warranty then say that opening it voids warranty :thinking:

I looked through our PM's. You did not say to open it, I see that now, I though you did. the pictures, though, showed no evidence of me OPENING the laser. After you seeing the pictures I said "I can just have my dad solder it back at his office if that works?". You told me I should try that.
Do we agree that the laser must be OPENED to be soldered?

I did say if I hold it upside down that the whole top part hangs out. That was true.

Whether you offer a warranty or not is irrelevant bw. US law is clear that a buy has an expectancy to get a working product. and you charging him to fix it is not "offering" to fix it. How hard is it for you to go through it for free and diagnose it. If its only a solder job it costs you nothing. You are ruining your reputation over the cost of few grams of lead free rosin core solder. If its the driver or diode then the customer is responsible ( barely after seeing your solder job)

I feel like such an idiot now, I said I'd post new pictures tomorrow, now I found out when I bugged my dad about it that he isn't going to the office.

What I do have, though, is a little video that I took a couple screen caps from (that's where the first image came from). I could post a few more screencaps, but I don't think it showed much more than what's there, just different angles. I'll post some more shortly.

@BhWollen - it would be cheaper to satisfy your customers than to turn people off from buying from you initially, because of the "hard stance" you want to portray.

It's ok to go the extra mile.

Like has been said before, sometimes you just have to "suck it up" , yes that stinks, but thats life in the big bad world.

Ben, I feel for you since I've been completely broke a few times in my life... but at the same time, you should not be selling lasers as a business if you can't take the loss on even one sale.

It is not at all uncommon in business to loose out with a few customers, but the overall profit should negate any of those situations.

This is a third thread about a questionable transaction for you in recent months... that's not good, and in the long term it will do more damage.

Before venturing back into selling lasers, please consider waiting a bit, until you have a buffer set aside in case something like this happens.

If the buyer claims that the product was DOA, and you receive it back and realize that the pot has been twisted off, or a wire has been soldered from the battery spring directly to the diode, or any one of a number of other obvious "kipkay-esque" YouTube "hacks" have been attempted - then as I said previously, all bets are off.

Tampering might be a vague term. I suppose customs might do something during inspection that could resemble tampering, but that wasn't really what I had in mind. The type of tampering that would, in my mind, disqualify the buyer from any sympathy (or help) on my end, would have to be a pretty obvious blatant attempt to screw with the guts of a laser.

Otherwise, I pretty much feel like it's always on the seller to make the situation right.

I guess some methods of tampering leave very obvious traces behind, but even something like a broken off potmeter could have been caused by customs inspection - they do drop things once in a while.

I worked in the fulfillment industry for a while, and we used to get returns that suffered all kinds of damage. Some packages were just run over by a forlift or even a postal truck. Customers would often open them anyway to see if the content had survived. We shipped out numerous cellphones, and if something like that happened to it the handset would often be broken, but with surprisingly little external evidence.

I don't want to take sides here. I just want to make a quick pointer and I am sorry if anyone takes offense.

One thing to think about is if you have a few good sales. Those people will tell a few other people. If you have ONE bad sale.... that person will tell EVERYONE.

I'm not commenting on who is right and who is wrong here because everyone will have their own opinions. But I just wanted to give a little advice to everyone on here so that we all may avoid situations like this in the future.

And the other thing, if you actually have an LPM, why do you describe them as 1.8W+ lasers if you have not actually metered them but own a meter? I mean if you have a meter right beside you it's nice to include an actual meter pic of the laser being sold, but thats my opinion
