Hi everyone, my name is Anthony, i'm new to this forum and i would like to know if this ebay seller is trustable: He sells a 300mw blu ray diode. I've searched on the forum but didn't find so please forgive me if a thread already exists about this seller. Here is the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/405nm-300mw-burn...item3efcb0ff29
Will I get a 300mw diode?
Thank you in advance.

You can push it to 300mW but it will die very fast. Ask him what sled is it out of. If he says a 6X GGW-H20L then buy it. You can get around 180-195mW safely. Anything else just pass. Make sure he mentions the GGW and not you. If you want 300mW you need an 8X diode.

If they do not mention which sled it's from, it's usually way overpriced and the power is exaggerated. I would buy sleds from trusted sites like modwerx.com , hightechdealz.com etc. instead of ebay.

Well that's what i'd prefer too Grix. But I can't manage to find a good diode that will produce 300mw without reducing it's lifetime. I'll search for an 8x diode.
Btw, what current should i set on my diver for a GGW-H20L diode to produce a decent power rate without killing it?
Thank you both.

EDIT: I have searched for a 8x diode but couldn't find it. Any links?(I have found blu ray drives like LG Bh08 or Pioneer BDR-205 (12x) but i'd like to find only the sled or diode.)

I just sent an eBay message to the seller asking for which model

I'll post here if he responds...

Default Re: Premium-us-entrepreneur.

I contacted the seller:
Hi, can you guarantee this is a guenine 300mw diode? Because i've bought several ebay diode and and have always been ripped of getting 100mw diodes where it said 250mw. So i'd like to be prudent from now on...
Thank you in advance.
Anthony.

Here is his answer:
Hi,

This was extracted from a 6x laser diodes and you
could find a lot of information regarding 6x laser
diodes from online.

And depending on your purposes, 300mW may not be
the optimum level you want. Based on the language
of your message, i would say you are trying to
build a handheld laser pointer.

If so, here's a copy of the review i got from one
of my customers who appear to have a decent knowledge regarding lasers when I surveyed his
opinions regarding our products:

"I am building a laser module with this diode and
therefore running this diode at 300mW would be a
joke. 300mW is only for high level industries,
testing, and other purposes that have extremely
well heatsinks built in and that would only
require the diode to run for a fraction of a
second at most. However, while keeping the current
at 190mAh and keeping the diode focused using the
axiz module and glass len, i was able to
obliterate nearly anything upon contact, unlike
your red laser diodes. That is not to say your red
diode are any inferior to this particular diode,
but it is due to the nature of the color "red"
that red laser appear to be somewhat weaker than
the blu-ray simply because of the fact that
photons around 650nm spectrum are not absorbed as
much as 405nm and therefore, the temperature was
not able to build up.

Furthermore, a friend a mine also purchase a dozen
of these from you for testing purposes. He did
multiple tests and pushed the diodes beyond its
limit and that according to him, running the diode
above 190mah or over 200mW is not recommended
because the durability will begin to show discrepancy even if the diode doesn't blow. But
running it at 190mah, the diodes generates an
impressive power without lowering the durability
of the diode.

Anyways, my friend has further information
regarding your diodes including voltage/current
curves ...."

I hope this will help.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

- premium_us_entrepreneur

Is what the customer says true?
Is it wrong to use this diode for handheld lasers?
If i power it at 190mA like said in the message, will I get a constant 200mw without reducing the life of the diode?

From what you posted... It seems the seller is being honest...

Yes... what the other customer said is basically true...
Of course you can use a 6X in a handheld Laser... check
out the Builds that other members have done on the Forum..

These 6X diodes were never meant to operate at 200mW CW.
Any power levels over the manufacturer's specified power will
decrease longevity...

This I don't agree with...

Do a little research on the 6X diodes and you will the safe
power level used by members on the forum for that LD...

I've done some search and found a nice 8x sled:
http://www.psxboy.com/1125_BDR-S03-8...D-BDR-203.html
Unfortunately it is sold out(another link is welcome) but with this one i should get 300mw without going higher than the recommended input current, right?

Btw, thanks to everyone that is helping me on this thread.
