Well I know a few people bid on this auciton and some were afraid to and worried about getting burned. So I thought I would post my results from the auction.

I bid and won three items:

Lot 35 "Blue DPSS Lab & Lightshow Laser Module 473nm"

Lot 70 "Yellow Beam HeNe Gas Lab Laser System 594nm 3mw"

Lot 292 "Gold C-Mount High Power 2W Burning Laser Diodes 18pcs"

What I paid:

Lot 35 I won for $210.00
Lot 70 I won for $100.00
Lot 292 I won for $10.00

Internet buyers premium was $57.60 on these three, so total invested to this point was $377.60

I made special request on the shipping in case of damage to the HeNe to insure it for $500.00 against replacing. As these are almost impossible to find used. And I had the DPSS blue insured for $300.00.

I also requested special care in shipping the HeNe tube to avoid breakage which they did.

Actual shipping cost with insurance was about $40.00. I was billed $80.95 for shipping and handling which is high but not unreasonable for the items.

So the total invested was $458.55

A lot of money to get shafted, if that would be the case.

I received the items today.

Packing was excellent and all items appear to have come exactly as the were sent.

Lot 35; The DPSS is a 473nm BLM-100. Output is a little lower than expected. Not sure why. but otherwise it is in perfect condition and has a very clean dot. No issues at all other than that. Key provided

Lot 70; The Yellow HeNe. The head is labeled as < 2mw, and it measured below 2mw. the beam is perfect and it does not have the ghosting like the yellow hene I got from Sam a couple weeks ago. It came with a JDS Uniphase lab style power supply that works well with the head. Key provided

The Alden connector has been cut and taped back on the wiring from the head..

Lot 292; unable to test at this point. - appear to be exactly as pictured.

All in all I made out quite well. The items are worth much more than I paid for any of them and all are in good working condition.

I was disappointed the output on the HeNe tube and the BLM-100 were not up to advertised specs. This is a mark against heruuscience. On the other hand everything I ordered worked well and was exactly what was posted it was in the auction.

I would give him 4 out of 5 on this. Losing a point mostly because of lower outputs.

I'll chime in here with my results when they arrive. FYI, if you (and anyone else who may have purchased C-Mounts from this auction) were interested in coming up with a working C-Mount rig/heatsink, I would go in on a purchase of 100x of them from eMachineShop.

I won a number of auctions from him for 9mm diodes, and I've already placed my own order for a bunch of Aixis module clones meant for 9mm. I'm considering doing the same for c-mount once I see what this stuff looks like.

I'm not at all impressed with the shipping company. Not Chris's fault because he didn't choose them. But they are very unprofessional. Don't reply to emails, don't ship quickly, don't provide tracking numbers when promised, etc.

Anyone know if Chris is doing another auction?
 
What did they meter at?

Re: Yellow HeNe. My andover LPM-1 doesn't handle yellow and the I don't trust the Kenometer at that low of a range. But it appears to be about 1.5 mw.

Re: BLM-100 It seems to get just above 80mw and stop. I need to make sure it's warmed up and test some more, but that was preliminary test.

I felt similarly about the shipper. No problems, Sharon was attentive to what I asked. But shipping was slow and I didn't get tracking even though I asked for it. It came across as a one man show (which I'm sure it is) I was happily surprised when they arrived.
 
Seems you did very well on that 473.
Too bad mr chris just wouldnt answer peoples questions about his scamming, sending people rocks, and all that good stuff. I might have ended up bidding on something if this guy even ACTED like he gave a rats @$$, or at least said, hey, this is my side of the story.
 
I bought a few diodes off of Chris too a while back, and I can say that I wouldn't have a problem trusting him either.

I got a 500mW 635nm C mount for 10 bucks and a 2W 808 C mount for $15. Both came in heat sealed anti static baggies inside of a really stout plastic box. Both work and laze at the color they are supposed to but I don't have a meter to check power. I can guess from my little testing that both are at least close to what they are supposed to be though.

As much as I don't want to turn people onto Chris' auctions (Because I won't be able to get $10 500mW 635's anymore!) I will say that I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.

I also never had any bad dealings with him.
Bought a 1W 635nm c-mount from him.
As well as other things I can't remember.
And he sent me a free bag of high power 9mm diodes with my order as well :D

If you did, and you have one you'd like to pass on, I sort of missed them :( I'd love to buy an extra, if you have an extra. I managed to get some in "chip" form, for $10, but I'm expecting that to be emitter only. Despite the tiny strip of indium solder I have here waiting for them, I'm really not sure that I can pull off the mad solder skilz required to make the Die4LASER approach work ;)
 
I have only had one dealing with Chris and it went very smooth so I have no problems with his transactions.

I know I don't have the solder skills to pull that off either, but someone around here might. Did you get more than one emitter? Perhaps you can trade one for some solder work on another.

It's not exactly easy, you know ;) ..... especially, is not easy to align one on a "useable" support (like, as example, a 9mm can, not speaking about 5.6mm ones), also if can be done something with non-standard holders, as experiment.

I tried only once, "resoldering" the chip of a 2W 808nm diode in 9mm can, that was desoldered from the base, but still working ..... it was just as experiment, but still needed more than an hour of work, before to reach to realign it in the original place :p ..... and this was some years ago, when i was younger, my hands was more steady, and my eyes was working better :p :D .

It was one of those things where nobody else bid, so I had a $10 bid in for 300x pcs, and got it. Since I was ordering other stuff anyway, I sort of got this with the rest of it for ($10 + $1.8 fee) / 300 = $0.04 cents an emitter ;)

Considering the indium solder I ordered separately cost $11 for about a 1 foot length, I'll be a lot more upset about the droplets of indalloy that fall between the cracks, than I will about any diode chips that do the same ;)

I mean, you're tempting me to start to sell the one i still have, if it really cost those amounts (but i think it's something specific, right ? ..... i mean, when i had to buy it, it was a "1 LB Spool" of 0.030 dia alloy (70Sn-18Pb-12In alloy) from a company called "Indium Corporation of America" ..... i don't really remember how much i paid, for it (years ago), but i'm sure i never paid so much, for it .....
 
I think it depends largely on the composition of the indalloy solder. The key point seems to be whether it has an insanely low melting point (like under 100 degrees)

If you're tempted to sell some, start with me ;)
 
Uhm, no, mine is not so low melting point, and i doubt that Indium alloys may reach melting points under 100 C ..... the one i have is rated around 160 C (154/163), and the lowest one i remember containing Indium is the euthectic alloy 48Sn-52In, that melt around 118 C, and is more "soft metal" than mine.

The only soldering alloy that i can remember that have a melting point lower than 100 C, is not Indium based, it's the euthectic alloy based on Bismuth (34Sn-20Pb-46Bi, if i recall correctly), that melt around 96 C, but i have no idea if it's still produced, or how much it may cost, being based on Bismuth ..... i remember that also years ago, it was not available anywhere here in Italy, if not for the industrial use.
