Default GuyFromHe - Bad experience

GuyFromHe bought ********* then (after several public forum posts stating that he was happy with the software) later filed a dispute with PayPal stating that what he received was not as described. Everyone knows that is a lie. Even though I have plenty of documentation to counter this dispute I went ahead and refunded his money.

GuyFromHe aka jared-j@xl0.org (Jared Friedman) is the type of person that gives PayPal a bad name and the type of person you don't want to ever do business with over PayPal.

I did a quick search.

It looks like Guy had some trouble with his DAC and with Windows drivers
It also looks like Gary helped him a lot getting it fixed
He got it fixed and even proudly posted his first completed show on the PL FTP site
The problem was NOT with *********

I fail to see any evidence or implication, from Guy's posts, that he didn't receive what he paid for

**EDIT** Looking deeper, it looks like Guy refused/returned the refund (or at least part of it)
Their communications have degraded in the last day.
Unless, Gary re-refunded the money, this is looking more like the usual problems with Gary's temper

Guy -- Did you keep the refund? What was the final cost to you?

Look at the sound card tutorial guyfromhe asks for a refund because of how carmangary treats him and says he will only give him one update after guy his customer paid for the product .

If this is the case, then it would appear that Gary has gone too far with his "I still own the software" attitude.

I know that he has cut others off from future updates and/or support for reasons other than his licensing agreement.

Him doing it to Guy for the above reason would not be out of character.

The refund was $89.

You guys aren't getting the whole story. The other day i said I was stopping work on ********* and no longer selling it. Guy started complaining and as a joke I said since he released one show I would give him one more update. Which was BS because as I previously stated, at that time I had decided to no longer work on *********. Besides, there is nothing on my website or from me that says that I will provide ANY amount of updates once you buy the software. When you buy the software you get what you get UNLESS I decide to update it. It's just like when you buy any other software. When you buy Quicken, if they decide to go out of business, you can't get your money back because they won't provide more updates. That's just silly. So, for him claim that he isn't getting what he paid for is BS.

I refunded his money ONCE after he had some driver issues and he gave it back to me after it he sorted it out. Then, after the above, he went straight to paypal and disputed the transaction. This was even AFTER I changed my mind and said I would continue working on *********. He got all bent out of shape with me. I did nothing to him. All I decided was that I wanted to change my life and not work on ********* anymore. I didn't know that I had entered into a lifelong contract to continue working on it when I sold a license to Guy.

Now, keep in mind that even though I refunded his money he still is able to use his license. So, he ended up with a FREE copy of ********* out of this. How is that fair to me?

OK here is the story from my side..

I bought ********* because I heard it was good from others and wanted to use it with my DAC.. I paid $89 for it. Gary refunded me because I was having issues and he did not want to make it seem like I paid for something I couldn't use... I managed to fix my problem on my own in the end by doing hours of research into what other users did with their DACs.

Once I had it working I felt bad not paying for it so I sent Gary the $89 since he had been so nice and helpful to me.

Everything was hunky dory then comes Thursday....
Gary flips out and says no one can ever buy ********* again and he refuses to support it anymore and is complete vague on if he will even generate new licensees if I reinstall / that computer breaks...

He then goes on to say that I didn't do anything for the ********* community and laughs at and insults me for disagreeing with his random discontinuation.

My though is that I paid for software I could develop shows in and others would develop shows in... If he stops selling it (regardless of update status) NO ONE is going to make content for it anymore. It also crashes often and stuff like that which I hoped would be fixed with future updates.. I hadn't even had the software for a month and there was NO NOTICE that it was going to be shut down and not sold anymore.

If I and others who I like to share my work with can not buy the software anymore I feel the software's value is NOTHING. It makes my work creating shows worthless and in a slip second I could loose all my hard spent time developing shows for ********* due to a bad hard drive or whatever.

I actually waited until Gary ignored and insulted me SEVERAL times before filing that PP claim I was hoping he would come to his senses and we could come to some sort of civil agreement. At this point I have uninstalled his software and hopefully will get something from someone who understands the difference between running a business and supporting a community. I couldn't even get an apology for the things he said to me...

As a side-note he claims he wasn't directing his comments at me but when he is responding to MY questions that's something that is directed at ME.

I don't know if the community feels that I am in the wrong here or Gary is but I suggest you read the whole sound card DAC thread before deciding and how you would feel if you were treated that way (and had your software devalued) by someone you paid nearly $100 to.

I tried to get a decent response from you all I got was insulted and laughed at. You treated me like crap not like a paying customer. Your claim I filed AFTER you decided not to stop selling it is also BS...

I filed the claim at 10/6/2011 18:23 PDT. You continued to keep your position about the software. You changed your mind publicly at 11:48 AM the next day...

EDIT: I also wanted to say that the only other time I had to file a Paypal dispute in the ~10 years or so that I have been using it was when I bought a product from a web store that didn't actually exist and there was no one to respond to e-mails or ship the product. They also didn't respond to the PP dispute... Every other transaction I have had I was able to work things out with the seller when there was problems. I could have kept ********* for nothing when Gary gave me the first refund if I was a dishonest person or looking to get something for nothing.

I would like you to state these cases where you know that I cut others off from future updates. There is only one case and that is ElektroFreak. There were some others who were given promotional licenses that expired at version 2.0. I did not cut them off. Their free licenses were simply not valid past 1.9.9.9 DrLava also had a free license that was cut off but that was because of conflicting personal/business interests that I am sure he understands.
