Howdy All well I just did a little current test to see what is up with this silicone wire.
it is rated conservitively at 2.2 amps current carring capability by the american wire gauge for it's size.
I however did not believe this and tested it for myself and found it will carry 5 amps no problem, I ran 5 amps of current through a 2" long piece and measured the heat by putting between my lips LOL and while it did get a bit warm at no time did it ever get above body temp so I give this wire my seal of approvel to be used in laser work :)
I like this wire so much I just went out on a limb and spent over $1000 to bring every one more colors, there will soon be added WHITE, BLUE, & Yellow to the list of colors avable.

Peace All...

Sweeeeeeet.

Great testing methodology.

I would love to see you test a wall outlet.:p

Just ask my mom, when I was crawling around in dipers at age <1 I picked up a coathanger and stuck it in a wall outlet, well I had a burn mark on the palm of my hand till I was about 14 years old.
So I have tested the wall outlets and they work

As Clark Griswold said "Nothing to be proud of Russ"

When I was a kid I had a few encounters with high voltage. Most memorable would be sticking a knife in a toaster to get my toast out(maybe that is what happen to me).
And I pissed on an electric fence at my uncles farm after my cousin dared me to.

I would not suggest the latter to anyone.;)

OK everone I just blew most all of my laser budget on more colors of silicone wire so lets get to ordering
The new colors won't be here for 3 weeks but don't let that stop you from ordering any of the 4 colors I
have in stock now, RED, BLACK, GREEN and PURPLE.
This is by far the best wire to use for this purpose with it's tight bend radious it will go anywhere and
becaise it's silicone insulation it will not melt under the heat of your soldering iron ;)

Got mine in the mail. You must have shipped it the same day i ordered because i got it fast! Also got some shrink tubing with the package for free, which came in handy!

This wire is just as amazing as i remember it. It will flex and bend when you put it in cramped spaces, which will save your diodes life.

The silicone is easy to strip off, yet can endure so much heat without burning!

This wire will last forever too. It's not easy to run through 20 feet of wire, and being as it's only $5 there is no excuse for anyone building a hand held to not use this wire.

:D plexus should of used this wire

 Funny but I think he had many more problems than just his wire.

@Pryo

Hey did you hear anything about the smaller wire? Would work awesome in some of the small keychain style builds.

^I had some chats with Flaminpyro re the thinner wire. (I hope you don't mind me jumping in here Jeff), it is available but minimum order quantities. The current carrying capacity is a little lower but just double up and you'll be fine. Small radii mean space can still be saved by doing this as opposed to using the thicker wire for the higher current.

Kook is interested in a mini GB for the UK so he may put a post up for that. Maybe just contact him with a PM and see if we can club together for a buy? It'd be easier for Flamingpyro and cheaper for us all to split shipping plus a little postage this end I think.

I'd be up for this for sure.

I'm going to be using Kynar wire for mine, it doesnt carry much current, but at the length its gonna be it shouldnt make much difference.

^If we get something going ped I'll send you a bit to try out, (if you've not used it before), it truly is nice stuff. I've not heard of Kynar wire. Is it something similar?

Well I have to say this wire is where its at!
I ordered 20'....Should be enough :)
The stuff is like Butter!......its very easy to work with and whats great is you can strip it with your fingernail!
Stuff it in an Aixiz!
Cram it in a Pen host!
This will be a requirement for my Apollo host coming from Mohrenberg and any other build from now on!
Come one!
Come All!
Flaminpyro has stock of this now!
He ships quick!
and his prices are very fair!(also threw in a few heat-shrinks for me...thanks Jeff)
All in all, as others have said, this is the only wire to use in your new laser build.

Glad you like it ;) it's the Shizzel for sure !

As for kynar wire it is nothing like this wire, it has a very slipery and tough insulation, it is made for what is called "wire wrapping" and is a solid conductor which is a no no to use here.
If you strip it with a blade and you happen to score the conductor and then flex it it will break where it's been scored and this can kill a diode if you use the wire between the driver and the diode.
I would not use any type of solid conductor wire in a laser build, that is just asking for trouble !
Peace All...

Got my wire yesterday in the mail, I am still impressed. I have never had a wire like this, smooth, super flexible, easy stripable, heat resistant. Just taking it in your hand is a pleasure itself. This wire is a *MUST*. If I would had this before, I would have avoided lot of problems. This wire will make my life easy, I have no doubt. I got several colors but Flaminpyro has got even more now. Really a very convenient wire to work with, the best I have ever had. He even included some shrink tube as a bonus. Thanks again Flaminpyro, for another fine tool ;)

Stocked up on some more wire. I do not use it very often as I rarely build lasers anymore.
I like to include strips of this in my packages for people to use on my kits.
This wire really is a MUST for any laser build. It saves me from getting flooded with pm's of people having trouble with their builds.

Not only that, but coupled with some of the heatshrink tubes that flaminpyro usually throws in, your build is must more secure and professional looking when it's finished. Which is great if you ever sell or trade and pictures of your work end up on the forum ;)

I just don't think we're getting through to some people on how amazing this wire is......

You can either have high quality and professional looking work or....
You can have stiff solid conductor wire with electrical tape wrapped around it that looks like crap.

both of which cost the same....the choice seems so simple to me.
