Let me start by saying I normally don't go off on anybody but this is ridiculous. And I feel bad for this guy that got suckered. I also know there is a lot of feedback for this individual already but hopefully this post will save somebody else from making the same mistake. If you are buying check the seller feedback and if you are buying a unit that the seller has claimed an unusually high power like 2W or over demand an LPM test before laying your money down even if they have good feedback.

Ok so this is one of DAOO's customers that sent me their 2.2W laser that he bought from DAOO for $300+. Now I will start by saying it was broken when I got it so take that into account.

You can see the glue residue from his security sticker on the head and body.

First thing I noticed was that it was a C6 host that in my opinion has a very small heatsink not a good choice for a high powered 445 lasers which produce a lot of heat. For example here is a C6 heatsink next to a Saik heatsink.

scaled.php

Next I noticed the heatsink was too small for the host. It was not held tight by the retaining ring which allowed for the sink to spin. It has about a .5mm clearance. That is a huge problem and should have easily been caught while building the unit.

So I proceeded to unscrew the lens and I found it had a regular Aixiz three element glass lens in it.:undecided: I am sitting there thinking is never going to get a 445 to break 2W with that lens. At most if he was way over driving the diode @ 1.9A he may get 1.9W out of an extremely efficient diode but not for long in that host.

p1017695.jpg

Next I looked at the soldering done on the diode. And here is another individual that does not think that shrink tubing is necessary for some reason.:tsk: It costs next to nothing and is easy to use. I just don't get it.

p1017700.jpg

The wire used is the hardest wire I have ever seen used in a laser host. It feels like that old phone cord wire that you could stab something with. The positive lead actually broke off the driver from being so rigid with the lightest of moment on the other end. On top of that the solder was not neat by any means. It looked like a 5 year old was trying to learn how to do it.

Ok so Aixiz lens and shorty wiring well I bet he at least has a driver in there doing 1.8A off those tiny CR123A batteries. Nope. It looks like a cheap $3-$5 DX flashlight driver to me.(I am sure someone can identify it)

p1017710.jpg

So I decided to test it. I got a reading a little over 1.2A with an 8.2V power source.

p1017688.jpg

Ok so this unit in my opinion this unit was probably doing 900mW-1.2W at best and he is claiming 2.2W. That is just unbelievable. I believe he listed these on his site for about $350. That is a huge ripoff. This is my rough estimate on what it should cost.

Host $12
Heatsink $15
Driver ~$5
Diode $40
Glass lens $10
Batteries $10

Total parts cost ~$92

A builder would be ok to charge about $50-$70 to put it together and take the risk of selling it but I would hope they take more pride in their work and would do a better job than was done on this one.

Before shipping and 3% Paypal fees I would estimate a fair selling price around $140-$160

This unit should have included a G-1/G-2 lens and a decent driver. Hell he could have gotten a Jib driver for $15 at least.

Anyway now I have to break it to this guy that he was scammed. He could have bought a better quality and power laser from Yob for $140 and on top of that of course his diode is dead probably from a cap on the driver.

Re: DAOO/LASERMASTER 2.2W Beast "NOT"

Except for the driver, I admit the rest of the laser is pure sh*t. I mean, look at how he broke the pill  Not sure why he did that. That DX driver is awesome DTR. All my 445nm lasers use it  Not sure if I put my diodes in risk but a lot of people use it in their lasers too. The size of the heatsink is ok if the diode is running at no more than 1.2-1.3 A, assuming it's outputting something close to 1.2 W. As for the laser, it's built very bad overall.

I am sorry but a 1.2A driver is unacceptable to use in a build you are selling as a 2.2W laser. I am sure it is a nice driver for a 1W laser but in this context it is not any good. Same goes for the host and heatsink.;)

Yea it looked like he got a little crazy with a power drill. Two small little holes would have sufficed to run the power leads through. EDIT The customer stated that they drilled the holes trying to get into the driver compartment.

It sounds like a rattle snake, but we all know that's cuz it's from a snake in the grass

Good job on helping this member get it right +2

Sorry I wasn't speaking about HOW the driver should have been. Indeed it was supposed to be 2.2 W and you can't achieve that with 1.2 A, obviously. About the pill. I thought it already had 2 holes from the factory?

WOW! I feel so bad for when people get ripped off on stuff like that:(
Was he a member here?
People just need to reed the buyer experience thread and do homework on who they buy from, so this wont happen.

Re: DAOO/LASERMASTER 2.2W Beast "NOT"

Yes he was a member here and started off offering to build any laser for $10.00 labor.
when he told me he was going to good guys and buying 12x drives and removing the
diodes and taking the drives back I dropped him like a hot rock and reported him to Avery.

I personally know of one guy in England that lost over $1000.00 to the scum bag.

And it's DAoO not DAOO if it matters...

Believe me, I know who our tyler is and was. I was here even before he stared his $10 scam.
Just asking if the victim was a LPF member? I'm assuming he was not aware of our feedback thread.

He is now a member here but he was a member and bought it over on the hack forums where I think DAoO is selling them now. Maybe somebody will link this to any threads he has over there.;)

People that intentionally rip off others need to be busted,...that also includes CEOs of questionable rip-off organizations!

Re: DAOO/LASERMASTER 2.2W Beast "NOT"

I'm guessing that this is the same guy who posted about this purchase here from DaOO originally?

Why he didn't ship back and file a dispute is beyond me....

Considering the shoddy work this laser is worth $120 max imho.

Yes^

people like these have no shame, its amazing how he continues to offer shoddy lasers and acts like the "laser building king"

Re: DAOO/LASERMASTER 2.2W Beast "NOT"

The diode is blown and the heatsink does not fit so I am left with telling this guy he has a $12 flashlight host, a $10 lens, a $5 driver and $10 worth of batteries.:yabbem:

The heatsink is a copper direct press head so I assume it came from that group buy a while back. I am hesitant to just order another heatsink for it as this host is probably out of spec which is why this heatsink does not fit in the first place.:(
