Your thoughts on the iPad Pro

So, as you may or may not know, Apple recently announced the iPad Pro along with the new iPhone 6S and a Apple TV.

I've been very excited for the iPad Pro to be announced mainly due to me wanting something to replace my 3rd gen iPad with. Now, after it's been announced and the main features have been shown I got even more excited.

What interests me most is that it supposedly allows the palm of your hand to rest on the touchscreen while drawing or writing with the pend, without interfering at all.

Is anyone else here equally as excited for the new iPad Pro as I am?

Never been a fan of pads, I don't see the point. It doesn't have the power or features of a desktop or even laptop, and it doesn't have the mobility of a phone. What is it good for?

That's like saying you shouldn't own any laser other than a mass produced 532nm 50mW pointer. It puts out a beam, right? Why get a higher powered one, or a different wavelength when it's all practically the same?

No offence, but if there were no reason at all to get an iPad (or any tablet for that matter) over a desktop or laptop. Then there simply wouldn't be any.

Then what are the reasons? I'm not saying there aren't any, I'm saying that I don't see any.

High portability compared to most laptops. Way more user friendly. Being able to precisely write, draw and navigate directly on the screen rather than having to use a keyboard and mouse.

Those are just a few things, there are many others. Again though, it's is kind of simple minded to say you "just don't see any differences" as there are many obvious differences. Sure they might be differences you wouldn't care to spend your money on, but that's the same for most products out there that get updated with new features and such.

I think you're being a bit too defensive here. You asked for our thoughts on it and I gave you mine, that's all, why do you have to call me simple-minded for that? Again, I'm not at all saying my opinion is fact.

I don't have an opinion on the iPad Pro, but I wouldn't be without some kind of tablet device. I can't see having the money for another iPad anytime soon, but I have had an iPad 3 since May or June of 2012 and it has seldom ever been turned off. It's mostly what I use, I use the laptop less and less all the time, the iPad I can hold in one hand, and it has a higher resolution screen than my laptop does, I am using it right now. I wouldn't mind having an Android or a Windows tablet, but I am happy with the iPad and it does everything I need it to do. I think most people don't even need a Windows computer for what they use it for, some do, but an iPad or other tablet device would be better for most I think.

Hi Gozert,
I have had an ipad 16GB, ipad 2nd gen 32GB, ipad 3 64GB, and presently have the ipad 4 128GB. I did watch the Apple press conference last week and saw their presentation on the ipad Pro. The 128GB model is around 1000 dollars which I will get in the next year I would think (existing gift certificates, Christmas, and birthday gifts and I can do it). I use my ipad mainly for my photography as my pics look great on it. The Pro has a higher res screen than all of the previous models. It unit is not that much bigger than what I have now but the extra viewing area would make 24MP pics look ever better bigger. And the thought of having 4 speakers that adjust as you move the unit is a great idea. But you are right when you say the Pro is designed for technical drawing and all artwork where you would use a pencil pen, or brush. For people who are into those professional fields and as hobbies must be salivating! I think the Apple Pen is 99 dollars. I would think when I eventually get a Pro, I would also get the pen.

Totally agree with you Alan. I used to have an iPad 3 too up until the beginning of this year. For some reason it suddenly had a small piece of dust under the screen that was to be seen every time I turned it on. It never moved, but kept annoying me. Eventually I sold it to someone who couldn't care about it for 250$ or so. I was like 2 months out of warranty, otherwise I could've gotten it replaced a guy at the store said.

I have been hearing rumors about a larger iPad since early this year, which is why I have been waiting for the Apple Keynote before purchasing another iPad. I'm glad I did, because this is something I've been looking for for a while. It's way more affordable than a MacBook, and way lighter and thinner than the average laptop. This was a huge thing for me because the laptop I currently own is over 8lbs and isn't light enough to carry around with me all day.

Yes Bruce, the high resolution screen is excellent for viewing large photo's. I can imagine this being something you'd look for in a tablet. Especially for you considering you often make photos. I'm wondering though. Do you have a way to easily transfer the photos from your camera to your iPad other than having to connect both to a PC?

I will be getting the Apple Pen for sure. From what I've seen it looks really promising. For the keyboard though, I likely won't be getting that. It's too expensive for something that's already easy to use on the iPad itself.

I just read that there's a limited first shipment of these iPads due to the screen they use. It could very well be that we won't see them available any sooner than early next year over here.

Overpriced garbage. 800$ for a bigger ipad. They are trying to market it as a functional laptop replacement, but it isn't. Running ios=not replacing a legitimate laptop.

Just another stop for the hype train. Also, a hundred dollar pencil? Tons of companies sell the same technology for half the price. Again, all aboard the hype train. I can't believe people call this trash "innovation."

I dunno. I have an iPad mini 2, and the only reason I upgraded from the first iPad was cause it dun shít the bed on me, it crapped out and lost half a year's worth of photos. I know Apple is overpriced and mostly gabbage, but it runs YouTube and games smoothly, screen is nice, and interface is easy. That's all I need.

I don't have one, but I bought an Ipad Air for my wife nearly two years ago and she carries it all over the house, she can't be disconnected from her online Russian movies, so if she is upstairs, she carries it there, if downstairs, down it goes with her... even if we are out, it often goes in her purse. For myself, a laptop and 6S iphone are more than enough.

LOL agree 100%. I use a nexus 7v2 as my tablet. Super portable and pretty powerful. It can actually fit in your pocket.

Do you think an iPad, or any tablet for that matter is meant to fit in your pocket? Of course not. That's what people have phones for these days.

Having it fit is a plus. If i wanted a desktop environment I would just bring a laptop or the Microsoft surface pro. A ipad is neither portable nor powerful. Surface Pro > Ipad Pro
