How do you people like Windows 10. I installed it and if you run Skype on it you get so much lag! I had to overclock my GPU fan just to play CS:GO.

Or an SSHD. I got one, and I absolutely love it. For almost everything I do, it is blazingly quick, and it's a several-year-old laptop.

Haven't tried Skype on it yet. I normally use my Xbox One, phone, or tablet for Skype. And I don't game on my PC. What is CS:GO?

If you have ever used a smartphone or social media, your info has long since been de-privatized. I guess win10 decided to do away with formalities and be open about it :P

Default Re: Windows 10 , Have you?

I ran the tech version on another machine and have not decided whether or not to do a clean install on several new PCs I just built. I recall with Windows 98, every 6 months, almost like clockwork, I had to re-install the OS and all my software.

I think there are several problem inherent in Windows. The MFT never dies, you wind up with processes you don't know about, and unneeded registry entries....additionally, most people do not do service reduction...that is to say if you look at Black Viper...or get the automated software, you don't get rid of...that is disable, set on manual....services that are unneeded.

It takes me a long time to do a fresh instillation so I finally learned how to use AIK, multiple imaging software (Macrium and Acronis are my favorites,) and a lot of tweaks before I even install all my software.

I move my user folder along with app data to a separate HDD keeping only the OS on an SSD partitioned as C: for the OS and d: for VirtualBox.

Install, tweaks....a lot of them, create an answer file, make an image, run sysprep, make an image, install software, make an image...then do incremental backups of OS and sync my data files.

Any experiments are done using virtualization. I browse in Bit Box which is a transparent browser using Linex in VirtualBox to protect me from malware....you don't need to know anything about virtualization to run it.

I leared a lot from the windows 7 and 10 forums

No, you can wipe yearly and be fine. Also if that is a problem for you use this instead https://ninite.com/. It works great.

Default Re: Windows 10 , Have you?

I went back to Windows 8.1.

Windows 10 was a lot smoother for day to day operation, but it has more bugs than I experienced with the Vista launch, significant enough to impede my ability to get work done.

I'm tempted to make the switch to debian, the only thing I would really miss is excel, but even that has gotten progressively worse with the newer versions of office.

What bugs?

The ONLY bug I have experienced, and this was just last night oddly enough was..I use the fingerprint reader to sign in to the laptop, and for the first time last night, it asked me to verify my MS password..so I put the (known correct) PW and it said it was incorrect. I thought at first it was a bit of Malware, but no it was Win10 /MS not recognizing my PW, had to reset it.

You will notice it when you begin gaming....or playing Minecraft, or something like that. It is like Vista all over again. It is super unstable. I got several game crashes I never got with Windows 7.

The lag most likely has to do with your PC rather than W10. I haven't experienced any lag on any of the 3 machines I installed it on.

I had many small ones, but the two that got me to switch back were:
1. It kept randomly signing me out of my Microsoft account, and it would use a lot of system resources to rebuild some cache when I logged back in. Not a problem for desktop users I imagine, but it reduced my 10h battery to 2h.
2. Touch screen was a nightmare.
Clicks would get stuck, gestures failed to be recognized, ect. I got a surface pro 3 specifically to be able to take notes, and microsoft butchered the touch interface in Windows 10. The bug is well documented (it effects 100% of users) but microsoft has failed to fix it. Driver issues are easy to fix, but this is an underlying problem with how the OS handles touch input devices.

With respect to Windows 7, at this point I generally don't wipe at all. I was just sharing my history being stuck in windows hell as they say.

As for Ninuite, I had heard of it. I don't use it because most of the programs I use are not listed.

After a clean install I simply image and then do the OS backups including updates and security patches for around 6 months....any longer does not make sense since there are going to be program as well as OS updates.

The most important items are my pre-sysprep image with all Win updates to that point in time, tweaks including tuning up services, and then the image I get after sysprep and instillation of all my software. This now saves me so much time if there is a failure.

I always do my imaging booting up with a thumb drive. I have Acronis with both Win PE and Universal Restore on one stick. On another, I have Macrium Reflect Professional which also has Win PE.

I can't tell you how much learning how to use Win PE has helped me save my system from a crash so I don't have to wipe and re-install.

The one aspect of this I have not gotten down to a science is whether or not to use sysprep to move the Users folder to my data drive or use some software I have which accomplishes the same thing via registry changes. The problem with sysprep is that it can be unpredictable and change your drive letters....I finally learned to copy the registry entry containing the drive info prior to sysprep so I could simply stick it back in should drive letter changes take place...which happened to me when I first started doing this....I lost a lot of time!

However, the advantage of the software is in that is is very easy to reverse the process prior to upgrade...now I always do clean installs so this is not relevant to me...but in helping other people it is.

I've been sticking strictly to day to day use, and very little work on my W10 PC's so far (most of the work I do is on a terminal).

On a day to day basis I haven't really noticed any bugs. The issues that I had on one PC were all resolved with a clean install. Though I doubt I would notice anything but a drastic drain on resources on the desktops.

Since at this point I don't think I will be reverting, my plan is to just finish tweaking the installs I have already, and then save mirror images on spare drives I have lying around.

My experience with using Windows 10 so far has been of absolute frustration. A pain in the ass is a gross understatement.

I installed it on my brand new Toshiba P50t and ever since then not a second has gone pass without it freezing up and glitching all over the place. I've performed a hard reset and so far nothing has worked, I'll be promptly moving back to Windows 7 as soon as possible in order to rid myself of this plague that is Windows 10.

I've performed a hard reset and so far nothing has worked, I'll be promptly moving back to Windows 7 as soon as possible in order to rid myself of this plague that is Windows 10.
I got a new pc rig and i tried win 10 and couldnt get it to activate it with a crack program even tho its supposed to allow you to pirate it. it then wouldnt install updates. i tried deleting some files which i didn't need and it wouldnt let me for whatever reason. i immediatelly installed win 7 and everything is perfect.

Installing it is a nightmare. basically I have to install Windows 8, update Windows 8, then use the Windows 10 uprade tool. It took me about 8 hours to get it installed under bootcamp on my MacBook Pro.
