What's in your camera bag?

I've been noticing quite a few impressive laser pics here on LPF lately and thought it would be interesting to find out what some of you are sporting in your camera bags. You don't need to have a whole bag-full of gear to take a decent photo of your lazor so please do post your gear, even if it's a simple, but good "point & shoot"

Most of my laser pics (macros and near-distance shots) are done with my EF-S 60mm which is the sharpest lens I've ever owned :bowdown:I would say it's Canon APS-C's equivalent of their FF's venerable EF 100 2.8 Macro.

If I want to be more flexible in focal length while shooting my lazors, I'll turn to my new 17-55 (what has since replaced my Sigma 24-70, used for some of my LPF reviews).

The most recent addition to my collection (and the reason why I won't be participating in Glenn's CNI GB#9...) is the 70-200 4L. Sharpest zoom I have ever had in my hands...

Not bad, Professor. IIRC, the 550 has a manual mode and with a modest table tripod you could put out some good images! My A630 is a descendant but adds full control capabilities (manual, Av, Tv, ...).

I know its nothin nice.. but i manage to take some pretty nice pix. I never leave home without it. I also keep my "to go" laser in there and under the microfiber i have a bunch of mirrors that used to be my hard drive. there is a lanyard i keep in there as well that i clip to my belt so i dont end up losing the whole pouch. *Its happened :shhh:
I dont have any special lenses or anything.. just a small tripod and thats all.. Its just me and the manual settings.



Maybe we could get a pixur thread goin.. i'd like to see what kinda things other members like to photograph besides just beamshots. I have a few i wouldn't mind sharing. I have 20 gigs of pix that are just mine on a few externals for backup.
Photography is one of my forms of escapism.

I bet if i stopped buying lehzors i could afford to get a "real" camera. but i doubt that will happen.

On the road i only carry a compact, lumix fx500 at the moment, along with perhaps a spare battery.

I love playing with better camera's, but i don't like to lug them along

I'm the opposite of Traveller. I don't have the photography equipment I want because I spend all my money on fancy lasers.
For almost all the pictures I have posted on the forums I use a Point and Shoot.
It's a Sony Cybershot DSC-W150. I use this one a lot just for convenience.

My SLR is a Canon AE-1. I don't use it as much for laser pictures, since it usually takes me 2-3 exposures before I get the picture I'm looking for, and film is expensive. I'm still a beginner with SLRs.

On my wish list is the Canon Rebel T1i and some lenses to go with it.

Canon Eos 40D and Eos 5DMkII; Primarily use 28-135IS for general carryaround, but also 70-200L/f2.8-IS and 100-400L/f4-IS with 2x extenders, too. (I do a lot of long-distance photography of abandoned cold war defense sites, sometimes from the air.)

Also carry a PowerShot SD990IS wherever I can for those "The best camera is the one you have with you" moments.

How do you like your 70-200L/F4 Traveller? My brother has the same lens, I may look into it for something a bit smaller than the 2.8.

Practically all lazor pics I took with the D90 were for reviews. I take too much care of my beloved D90 (had to work a full year to buy it) and I wouldn't want my also beloved sensor to get burnt by any laser

I'm still looking for a hard case to put the camera in. I don't want any soft bags, I want something like a Pelican case or those hard aluminum ones. The thing is the shipping is so overkill it's actually higher than the product itself

But IF the man asks me for laser pics, I'll take some I won't take them today nor tomorrow, but they will get here

I found in "electronic fair markets" some of these cheap "tools carrying cases" that are aluminium outside, and (bad quality) hard foam inside (the cheap ones that you can find for few money, i paid them like 12 or 13 Euro each one), and once used one for send a camera set, and actually i still have the camera in it, when i go around ..... just took out all the inside parts, then took a big piece of rubber foam, cutted it in a block that fill the whole inside of the case, and then cutted "shaped" holes for all the parts, with another foam layer on the cover ..... it took a little bit of time for make a precise work, but then you have a decent carrying case for few money (i know that those carrying cases are not high quality, but it's still some years that i throw it here and there with the camera inside, and it's still integer, more or less ..... and also if someone break it, a spare case is still low price, after all ..... )

I considered a Lumix way back when too - they are pretty nice cameras and as along as you have the option to go semi/manual (Av, Tv) then you can do a almost everything I can. My only advantage is access to some serious glass. For macro or portrait photography, it really helps.

Wow, I'm impressed at what you've managed to capture with that auto P&S! Clearly you've got the skillz... not to mention that AE-1 is a cult classic. My cult classic was the Minolta X-700, that is until they stoled my entire camera bag, which had two bodies, four lenses, a ton of filters and a pro flash. My analog days were over in one instant... sigh. I bought my GF a used X-700 a while back... maybe I'll be able to seduce her into giving it to me... (and if not, I'm sure she'll trade it for my Rebel + 18-55 )

I have a Canon PowerShot A460. Not the best (definitely compared to all the cameras you guys have lol) but it occasionally gives a good beam shot.

A 5DMkII... now you've got me salivating... I'd love to have a FF, not to mention 98% frame coverage! As for the HD video option... do you use that feature much? I still can't get into the idea of shooting video with an SLR... :undecided:

Oh yes, I love the 70-200 4L IS! In fact, I bought it when I was planning to buy the 2.8 (non IS) but after pitting the 4L against two copies of the 2.8... . The 4L is just as sharp (and at f/4, even a tad sharper*) then the 2.8s were and while DOF won't be as controlled @f/4, DOF is still ok @f/4 within the ~135-200mm range

Someone suggested that the 4L IS and the *new* 2.8 IS II uses new, "corrected for digital SLRs" technology; I don't know if that's really the case, but the 4L is almost as sharp as my 60mm prime at certain fl, even wide open...! Last but not least, it's not the "walkaround" lens, but you won't even notice the weight (760g) when using it. The 2.8 is so heavy (1350g?) that it's no fun without at least a monopod. I agree that it has it's place in one's kit but most of my photography is impromptu stuff and I can lug the 4L around all day in my backpack while having the 17-55 around my neck, but the 2.8 would be sitting in my car 'till I really needed it. At your "defense site", I'm sure you have the 2.8 almost always on a body and on a monopod...

There is one caveat, though, the IS on the 4L is really noisy... it would certainly scare away any [close] wildlife (not my perferred subject) and maybe make the girls a bit nervous (my preferred subject )

p.s. SD990 (980) IS... 2.8 & IS in a 200g P&S??? Nice find :beer:

EDIT: Looks like I wasn't the only one with a good 4L copy and less-than-good 2.8 copy... :-/
