Thanks for the nice comments on my reviews TRAVELLER, but I agree that they DO NEED PIX. Whenever I get enough $$$ for a decent camera, I buy another laser. Gotta stop doing that ONE TIME, & get a halfway decent camera for LASER PIX, FINALLY. rob

The Sigma is nice. You can get very close up macro pictures, capable of 1:1 reproduction. But, it's not a very versatile lens because of the slow focus motor. It's adequate and has a focus travel limiter for use as a general lens, but it's very slow IMO. But, if you're just using it for macro anyway, you probably won't be using autofocus due to the relatively narrow depth of field at the proximity you're taking the pictures; things move out of focus very quickly, so if you're not using a tripod (which I recommend), you'll be doing a lot of fine focus adjustment.

I'm still not very experienced with the macro pics, but here's an example that I could find where I used it:

Nice work! All my laser/ laser gear images published on LPF are done with manual focus and tripod, so we're on the same page there. Fortunately, my EF-S 60 USM Macro also doubles as a very sharp portrait lens (FF equivalent of 93mm) and thanks to Canon's ultrasound motor, focuses lightning quick.

i got a rebel and a sigma 24-70 ex dg.

havnt used to since i lost the charger over a month ago.

I "had" the 24-70 HSM for about a year; a very, very sharp lens but I had major problems with the AF, so I had no choice but to trade it in... . How's your 1st gen treating you?

As for the charger, it shouldn't be too hard to obtain a cheaper, non-OEM charger.... :undecided: just don't wait too long otherwise your battery will "decay" if left uncharged for too long... !

the lens was good, fast AF even though not HSM and sharp for a wide-tele zoom.

and im yet to find a cheap charger for my camera :(

My old film camera bag ontains a Minolta XG/M with a 50mm lens, a 24mm lens, a set of 28 different vivitar glass filters, syringe actuator, and a Vivitar flash.

My digital camera doesn't even have a bag. It's a Canon PowerShot A590. Neat little cam, does a good job with macro shots.

I have several other cameras, acquired over the years at yard sales and in lots (i'm a sucker for irresistible deals), but never used them. Time for a yard sale of my own I guess.

And the last time I used the XG/M was about 10 years ago...

Ah, another fellow former Minolta man :beer:
As far as I'm concerned, Minolta was up there along with Canon & Nikon during the MF era. Minolta however lost a lot of followers (including yours truly) when they changed the bayonet for their AF lenses... .

I'm sure the the A590's nice; I can get a lot done with my A630 and both are more or less the same...
