My first site I played with was with yahoo small business, and even months in, would not show up in the yahoo results but google only. Even after submitting to both, sometimes it takes longer than usual for them to crawl it.

Give it a little time

google needs to recognize it first and then it indexes it.

but remember, google chooses the results it shows.

rog8811, I may be still learning about lasers, but as you may be able to tell from my nick, if there's one thing I DO know about, it's search engines! ;)

To answer your question, the best way to get a new site listed in Google - is to simply get another site that's already IN Google to link to you! That's it! Google's spider (Googlebot) will see the link, follow it to your site, and presto! :)

Even better, try to get one or more sites with a high PageRank to link to you, as Google often spiders such sites more frequently, and may pick-up on your link quicker - high-PR links are also more valuable to you! ;)

The reason this method is the best way for getting a new site listed in Google, is that Google places a high value on a web site's PageRank in determining how well the site comes up in searches. As PageRank is based on the importance of the sites linking to you, if you manage to get your site listed in Google before it is aware of any links to you, your PageRank is going to be -nada-, and your site's search engine rankings are going to suffer as a result!

My first site I played with was with yahoo small business, and even months in, would not show up in the yahoo results but google only. Even after submitting to both, sometimes it takes longer than usual for them to crawl it.

WannaBurn, I had noticed that around the time that Microsoft was threatening to buy them out, Yahoo seemed to me to have been doing piss-poor in keeping it's index up-to-date. I had one site where I even submitted an XML site map specifically indicating that certain pages has been updated since Yahoo had last cached them - and it STILL took months to get the updated pages in the index!

They seem to have improved since then, in one case late last year actually beating Google, and having a newly updated web site showing up #1 in Yahoo less than 48 hours after I had created it! :)

Based on my latest experiences, Yahoo currently appears to be updating at about the same speed as Google (at least with regards to your home page, older cached sub-pages can still sometimes drag a bit).

rog8811, you appear to be one of the more knowledgeable & helpful people here at LPF.
