Hello everyone, well this is the first time i will do this. Actually im also a victim of this product, alot of customers here in ASIA already complained about HP Compaq Presario CQ40 Series Laptop.

Well dont be deceived by the great looking laptop and promising specs..

here is the sample specs of the laptop

HP CQ40-310AU specs

Here is my experience, I bought my laptop on a local shop here in the philippines last August 5 2009, which means this is still under warranty not to mention im playing it on an installment basis tru HSBC.

after 3 months of regular use, with great care given to the product, i was surprised that the battery malfunctioned, the battery only lasts about 10 minutes.

after 3 monts and 2 weeks of use, the LCD screen flickers intermittently,

I reported this to the nearest HP service center in our area and guess what, UNTIL now it has been 6 months there is no replacement that was going on.

thanks to HP...

GUYS Avoid buying from HP.. they SUCK!!!

:)

It seems their quality has slipped these days. I have an older Pavilion zv5410us notebook and it was a great deal at the time, but this was like 6 years ago now.

My roommate last year had a newer HP notebook and had nothing but problems with it. The CD drive had even failed several times in a row.

Now I'm rethinking saving for a Dv6t, although I've heard nothing bad about it.

there is no problem with the other HP models the only problem with the CQ40 series is that the Laptop was manufactured in CHINA. the First 2 LETTERS of the serial number of the batch of notebooks to have been reported with LCD failure came from CHINA has this CN <-- at the first 2 letters of the serial.

My first PC was an HP Pavilion N5470. That was back around 2000, right before the AMD Athlon XP processors were branded as such. It still runs really well. The only issue is that that the hard drive screeches a little from old age and that the battery life is crap. HP used to deliver far better quality than they do nowadays.

Actually HP used to be good....until they merged with Compaq. Compaq computers were horrible and still are. I'd avoid HP/Compaq at all costs now.

I have had my HP Pavilion for over 2 years now and it's still running like I just got it out of the box. I haven't bought any other brand other than HP, never had any problems with them.

Yeah, the CQ40 has a well known flaw where it can develop flaws on the screen after repeated punching.

Yeah, a customer brought that in about a year ago... Said they were having problems with it and the screen cracked "for no reason". I wasn't here when it happened, but apparently this guy's wife came in with a demolished CQ40, a demolished 12" iBook and a black eye, she sheepishly told the techs here these problems happened "for no reason" while her husband was using them... Apparently she wouldn't answer any more questions, she just got quiet. The mac was ripped apart, literally torn to pieces by hand.. We called the police for her sake, but since all we had was a name and a phone number and a report of a black eye they refused to file a case. Neither of them have ever returned to collect their laptops... Creepiest thing that's ever happened at my job.

Alll my wife and I have used for the past six years has been HP. We've never had a single problem with any of the HP's we've bought, especially my laptop. And trust me, I beat the hell out of this thing!

I have a new Elitebook 6930p I got through my university and except for a loose connection between the chassis and the lid, which was fixed through warranty, it's been great.
