So I thought I would start up a thread of people's favorite video game music.

The reason, I just re discovered an amazing soundtrack: Tetrisphere - from Nintendo 64.
This has got to be one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. awesome techno beats and lots of bass...it sounds amazing on my skullcandy crusher headphones(battery powered subwoofer in the earpiece) I highly recommend this soundtrack to anyone who likes electronic music. Very good listen. You can find it on youtube. Just search tetrisphere ost, and pick the one with 14 tracks.

There is one with 20 something tracks but the extras are just the very old sounding primitive 8bit sounding tunes. The 14 track version is very very good.

And to make somewhat of a list, another great soundtrack is from a Gamecube game:
Phantasy Star Online Episode III: C.A.R.D Revolution. More sweet techno beats. good stuff I used to have this game back in the GCN days, it was a blast

I also enjoy the music from these games:

Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars

Super Mario 64

The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina Of Time

F-Zero X

...

I cant think of any more at the moment :p

From what is probably my favourite video game of all time, Portal 2's "Reconstructing Science" soundtrack is very appealing to me:

I love Ocarina of Time music. I learned several of the tracks on piano. Majora's mask music is good too. Also Phantom hourglass. I used to play all these games and the music too, back in 6th grade.

I've always had a thing for the soundtracks of old PC DOS games. Usually, particularly in the case of games towards the mid and late 90s, the MIDI that was composed was done so on quite high end equipment. Often though it wasn't heard as it was intended because cards like the soundblaster were cheap and reliable but didn't have the same high tech soundfonts. I always preferred, for instance, the way Duke Nukem 3D sounded on a soundblaster, despite the fact that it was recorded on Roland equipment and intended to be played back on a Roland Sound Canvas. The soundblaster 16 (and possibly AWE32) play back MIDI in a very noticeable, almost "chip tunes" style.

I got the new Doom game this past year and I gotta say, the music throughout the game was perfect to get my heart pumping and matches the intense pace of the game as well. Nothing much better then hearing a hardcore metal jam come on when you're about to blast thousands of demons to pieces:D

I also love the old Doom game as well. Something about the retro style of that music just feels right.

Pretty much the entire soundtrack from Tribes: Ascend is my favorite.

RIP best and most exhilarating game ever ;_;7

Also, the entire soundtrack from Elite: Dangerous is very well made and very fitting. Sometimes I'll just sit back and listen to the in-game music when not listening to radio sidewinder when either hauling or exploring. :p

I thought of a few more I really like:

The old Doom music for sure, Ive played Doom II for so many hundreds of hours, that music is like a part of my soul  When i was 12 or so my best friend at the time parent's were divorced and his Dad would get to see him every other weekend and sometimes I would go with him to stay at his dads for a weekend, and we would just play Doom 2 pretty much those whole weekends. Sooo much fun. His dad was a then at the time a big IT geek and built his own machines. I remember when he was all proud of his Pentium 90 with the quad speed CDROM :D Ahhh memories

And Skyrim. Love the intro title screen music. I have sat many a time after a certain smoke session and just let it play for a good long while(back when I did such activities)Been a non smoker over a year now

The other music in Skyrim is really good too, that is an all around well made game. I got the special edition a few weeks ago so I have been re visiting this great game.

I also love the music in Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Falllut 4. Lots of good stuff there.

Also Zelda: A Link to the Past. logged tons of time in that game too. Great music

More for the list of great music:

Starfox 64
Waverace 64
Final Fantasy 7 8 9 10 11(played 11 for 4 years) 12

Hands down one of my favourites is the soundtracks to Deus EX Human Revolution and Mankind divided.
It is an amazingly headdy game as well as having an incredible score by Michael McCann.
I like the way it causes you to think about current problems in society in an allegorical way while you play. Not your typical gameplay.
