Ya it looks legit. Wouldn't be that hard to make one either. It looks like a sstc or a drsstc.

Looks real to me... you can see the fluorescent tubes igniting
with every High Voltage discharge of the gun...
It's basically a pulsed portable Tesla Coil...

Yes, I have also noticed this. But how the guy can avoid the discharge? If it's basically a Tesla coil I think that could be dangerous...

It is pulsed because of the modulator. As for avoiding the discharge, there is a break point which helps direct the steamers in the direction you want them to go.

The two things I want are the minbrute with a midi based modulator for playing songs like mario, tetris etc.. and I want the lightning detector because I love storms.
