its not that hard, all the gate transformer is, is 3 wires tightly wound x amount of times onto a ferrite doughnut then soldered to the PCB

I would eventually figure it out. Would love to move up from wireless florescent tubes to lightning in my house :)

Still no sign of that spike btw. Nor the acrylic from Things. Did it have tracking?

LtKernelPanic,

Iam glad you asked that. I too have been worried about the same thing.

Thanks guys for answering this too. You have given me some confidence!

Isn't onetesla a better option than the microbrute? AFAIK the arcs are longer and it's cheaper as well. I'm seriously thinking about getting one myself.

My 4"x28" secondary coil took me 20minutes to wrap with 26awg.

have a friend help you and it wont take so long!

I'm actually drawling up plans for a SSTC.

Anyone know where some basic information is on this two do?
As far as the electrical components?

I know how to do a SGTC. I'm sure the coils are pretty much the same, but as far as the capacity bank, terry filter, all of that I have no idea how it'll work for a solid state.

One tesla is a bit better for value, it can play midi from the get go and the secondary is already wound, and you get a alloy toroid, tho the heatsink isnt as big and the IGBT's are smaller.

Ill start my Onetesla build soon.

Take a look at Steve Ward's site: Solid State Tesla Coils

Im looking as this now, was wondering how to determine what driver I would need or how to determine what to change to make the driver more powerful to create a decent size coil.

The one so far I found on that page was one that stood about 4 ft. Secondary looked like it was 5-6"

Im wanting something bigger. Like a secondary that would be like 10" thick and about 4-5ft in length.

I mean, go big or go home right?

@Fiddy: keep us posted, looking forward to seeing the onetesla!

@irishluck: at that size range you'd better go for a DRSSTC, which is *very* complicated and *VERY* expensive. I barely got my small SSTC to work - the poor thing blew up thrice! You should probably go to 4HV (mods: am I allowed to say this here? sorry if not, feel free to edit), all the best coilers hang around there.

Yea I have an account with them already and have for awhile.

From looking at the schematics for the driver for a SSTC, WOW is all I got to say. I mean im not sure where to even start.

The SPTC was pretty easy to do. The terry filter schematic was very easy to read and understand how it worked along with the whole coil.

But the SSTC, like I said, wow.

I tried asking them on that forum about where to start and basically was told to search the forum and google it.

Right now I've got about 20 tabs opened up in chrome with nothing really pointing me in the right direction lol

The one I built was simple enough. Deceptively, though. You need an oscilloscope for sures.

Last update on the SSTC 1.0.

New breakout spike :)

Just have to figure out a more permanent top to hold it. Currently using the top of a workout supplement bottle with a hole in it. But it works for now :)

Ooh, nice spike! :can: Is that tungsten tipped? Anyways, in my previous message I just read the pic and you can disregard the "do not scope anything" if the coil is properly isolated or if you have a battery powered scope or an active probe.

They apear to be working for me. Hmm. Thanks for re adding them! Just need a better, more permanent top piece to hold the spike.
