Taking stuff apart=fun

So I recently went to my dad's house, and he told me he was going to throw away his old VHS camcorder that we filmed all our old videos of us kids growing up with. I say NO! I will take it! Well, it was fun to take apart, and I got some cool little parts I might never find a use for, and I also found some decent lenses, maybe eventually I can make a beam expander.

The ones from the VHS recorder are on the left of the dotted line.


I'm sure you notice the Infrared Filters in the middle. The left one actually isn't from the camcorder, it's from a cell phone camera, but the other 2 are. The middle one is 9x2mm, and the right one is 12x1.5mm. I tested them with a night vision camera and IR pass filter, and they are all indeed ir filters.

Cool, looks interesting. We have an old VHS player that i wouldnt mind taking apart thanks for the idea!

These parts are from a VHS recorder not player. Doubt there is anything cool in a player other than motors and gears.

Where exactly did you find those lenses? I cant find anything although they might be in that silver spinning head thingy

There's only certain spots you'll find lenses on it. You just need to finish taking it apart .

It was EXTREMELY similar to this one


And yes, a camcorder, not a VHS player lol

Lol yes it doesn't really matter.

So I used that 9mm x 2mm IR filter for my FireDragon from Dino. I still have 2 small filters (one from webcam, one from cell phone camera), and that 12mm x 1.5mm one, which for some reason I just think is cool looking.

I have a really old camera, I might take that apart and see whats inside

I AM into electronics, and takin stuff apart and all... not as much as I used to...

but...

WATCHES(!)

When they came out with battery powered watches, they were probably hailed as the best thing since sliced bread.

BUT...

Now I live a fairly sedentary, relaxed lifestyle. I never really go anywhere. Thats OK, I am getting old and cranky, anyway.

So I put my watch on a shelf, never use it... just once in a while, to, say, go to the doctor (and on occasion for a hospital stay)... and the batteries die.

So I order a battery.

I attempt to change the battery.

Is it just me... or lately, are the watchmakers deliberately designing these things so that you CAN'T do it at home? They practically explode on the table when you open them... pieces, little clips, springs, assemblies etc. go SPLOOSH across the table.

Now, it seems to me, with the interest in "going green" and all, that we would go BACK to "human powered" wind-up watches. No mercury batteries to throw away and pollute and stuff.

BUT NO. Try to find a NEW wind-up watch anywhere - even on the internet. All I can find are used ones. No one makes them anymore.
