Which sub 1K 3D printer?

The tittle pretty much sums up what I'm looking for. I really want to give 3d printing a try but to be honest I'm more than a little confused. There are so many different models and types out there. I would really like to keep my options under $1000.00

Some of the things that are important to me:
1) Price needs to be less then 1000.00 shipped
2) Fully assembled printer, no building it from parts.
3) I really want to stay away from proprietary cartridges. I want to be able to use standard spools. This isn't an absolute must as I know there is one brand that uses a chipped cartridge that can be reprogrammed to think it's full while actually using a normal spool for printing.
4) Optional: ABS and PLA would be nice.

Anything else I should look for or stay away from? Those of you that have 3d printers, which models do you have and how much trouble do you have keeping everything calibrated and getting good prints?

I just got my DaVinci 1.0 3D printer a few days ago, and so far I love it. Its the one you mention that takes cartridges but can be re-programmed, and the cost per cartridge isn't too much more than a generic spool. Also on NewEgg they were having a promotion where you get two free cartridges of filament when you buy it.

The printer is 600$ CAD, dunno what that is in USD.

Just bear in mind, the DaVinci 1.0 software is very basic, and if you wan't to make your own designs your going to need some sort of 3D design software (wasn't a problem for me since I'm a 3D artist)

It prints ABS by default, but the spec sheet says it will be able to do PLA as well.

Anyways, I enjoy it, but it might not be right for you if you don't already have a 3D design suite.

I have the Prusa i3 from makerfarm.com and I'm very happy with it. However, it does not come assembled so I guess you are not interested.

I have a prusa I3 too. I bought everything about a year ago, and it's still not up and running. I dropped it off at some guys house I found on Craigslist to finish it for me. I'll have to see if he can finish it.
