Understood, so basically the moment I get a new phone, I should flash it with newest firmware that exists for it, in Xperia's case, 4.0.4 "Ice Cream Cake".

Since the interface is highly customisable, not worried about bloatware much. 'Tis Android, after all. How hard can it be to remove?

So you mean, upgrade it to 4.1 even though it's not designed for it?

Hmm I dunno, how reliable is that?

Also yeah thanks for correction, stupid typo... :D

Read the tips on JB. It is the best android software to date. the system req's are the same. it will handle quad core.

Jeez dude, use "Edit" button to add stuff to your posts, don't make 4 posts in a row. Tends to look bad.

I much appreciate the links, though.

What's this "GB" you speak of? Gingerbread? The old 2.3?

What "quad core"? What are you talking about? :D

I was asking,

Xperia U is designed for Android 2.3, and comes shipped with it. For all my intents and purposes, it's a great OS, but if I can upgrade why not.

So I have an option to upgrade to 4.0.4 and it's officially supported. I will do that.

Why would I want to upgrade to 4.1 if the phone wasn't designed for that and that upgrade isn't supported by makers of the phone?

Besides, there was a video, differences between 4.0.4 and 4.1 are trivial at best.

You might want to upgrade to a later version of the OS the phone wasn't designed for (or at least the OEM doesn't provide for) because you might want some of the features or optimizations. Also, some of the OEMs are just lazy or want you to force obsolescence on you so that you upgrade your phone and buy a new plan when your contract is up. You can get more life out of an older phone if you can successfully utilize newer firmware--provided the hardware is sufficient.

Hell, if I stuck with the "official" software on my current iRiver H-140 music player from 2003, I'd certainly have ditched this beast half a decade ago.

Understood, thank you for the explanation man.

How would I go about a downgrade? Is it as simple as upgrading to new version? So if anything goes wrong and I want to return it to 4.0 ?

Umm... not understood :)

Slow down man, I don't know what are you saying here last few posts.

What quad core, how does that relate to anything?

In other news, I just had an Xperia U in my hands to try out for a minute, and I have to say, even with original OS 2.3, it appears to be brutally fast, smooth UI animations, and most of all I really enjoy the screen colors and sharpness (that's something Youtube videos will never show you),

Also it's very light, it's EXACTLY the size I expected it to be (can put in pocket but large enough)...

Man now I can't WAIT until I save up munies.
