have you guys saw any of the sky lanterns?
These things are so cool.
They are basically hot air balloons made with biodegradable fireproof tissue, bamboo, wax and cardboard.

They range in sizes from 2 feet tall to 10+ feet with the common ones being about 3 feet.
They will go up over a mile and travel out several miles depending on weather.

I like to launch them down at the lake and use my green pointer to really light it up.

At a fireworks get together in march we launched 35 of them all at once and it was wild looking.

At night they look like a big slow moving orange ball in the sky.

During the day if the sun it bright and hitting them right they look like a silver ball even though they are white.

next year they will have different colors.

You can Google them or you-tube search.

here is a link I have on my page where I sell them around the 4th.

http://www.jeffsfireworks.com/skylantern.htm

I did not want to post it until after the 4th so it would not look like I was spamming.

Jeff ! It's too bad you can't ship :( I went to your main page - LOTS of neat stuff there ! They only sell fireworks here in San Antonio twice a year - but they are legal year round ! The best part of that is, the roadside stands are about 3 minutes from my house...damn fun stuff - I am a HUGE fan of the artillery shells - Next time I am in your neck of the woods - I will DEFINITELY email in advance, and look you up ! My folks live in Crossville - GORGEOUS place....

If this is considered spam I am sorry and please delete this post but If I try to give a small discount of 10% in free stuff to anyone that visits me and buys fireworks. Just mention the forum.
I can ship the lanterns and they average about $7 shipping for up to 8 after 8 the cost goes up about 2 bucks.
I really was just posting them because it seems that Lasers and things like those appeal to the same type people.

I totally agree. I think the vast majority of people that are into lasers have very similar other interests.

Seems like possibly something safe that's airbourne to point our lasers at !!!! Instead of IDIOTS pointing them at aircraft !!! Very cool though, I tried to make something like that when I was a kid. It caught fire !!! Before it even looked like it was going to lift off. LOL !!!

Is wind a problem with these things? These seem like a great thing for a pyro birthday!

Got 'em today. Each one individually packaged. These are fragile weighing only 2.7 oz each and have to be treated as such. It's a small hot air balloon.
Sadly, The weather tonight presents high density altitude and probably not good to launch one :(
Pyros observe SAFETY always.

You need to be careful if you just open the package at the flap because the glue will catch the paper and rip it.
It is best to cut the plastic packaging. They are pretty resilient though because I have launched a couple with quarter sized holes in them.
Winds of 5MPH are fine.
We tested some in 15 MPH wind.
we took them in the garage and let them warm up enough to fly and then let them go.
They still went fine although they were slower to rise and flew horizontal longer.
I think after you light one off you will be hooked.
When I am bored I will set a few off just for fun.

The fuel lasts 10-15 minutes.
