Re: Mini Quadcopter

Get us agps track witha gopro. You may want to get the external compass. Mine shifted 20 to 30 degrees from the correct headibg with full current to the motors. My compass now sits up next to my gps antenna.

Re: Mini Quadcopter

I have a cheap gopro clone I've been using, then I don't feel as bad if it falls off and smashes :p

And yeah I have the external GPS/compass module, you can see it on the top plate right at the back.

Thats just your gps unless they have changed it the 3 axis magnetic compasd located on the arduino board is what shows your heading on your HUD. At least thats how mine works.

It's the APM 2.6 (doesn't have an onboard compass at all), they moved the compass into the gps module :)

First shot from a crappy 720p gopro ripoff:

Gonna pick up a cheap but decent point and shoot that supports CHDK, then I can set up a remote control for the shutter on my transmitter and get nice pics.

And the camera mount:

Better pic of the quad:

I was looking into building one of these a while back but then realized how hard it would be :) How much was the Jaycar one? It looks similar to the AR Drone by Parrot...
EDIT: seen the price :)

Not so much hard as a money pit :D

Yeah, the Jaycar ones are pretty much an AR Drone ripoff, but less functionality.

Got myself a camera! :D

DSCF2407.jpg

I need to purchase a right angle USB connector so it's not so close to the props, I can't face it directly downwards without the cable hitting.

It's a Canon A4000IS which I've loaded CHDK onto, so I can trigger it remotely from my TX, it works awesome and doesn't even need any extra electronics!

Quite windy outside today so haven't had many chances to fly, camera was facing down in this shot and the focus wasn't locked, so it's a bit blurry. I've locked the focus to infinity with CHDK and now just waiting for the wind to die down. It can fly in this wind (30km/h) but it's definitely not stable :(

:D

I'm using 3S 5Ah packs. Could probably go bigger but I already get like 15 minutes with them, the copter weighs about 1.6kg with the camera.
