PSP Not Loading Games?

So...was playing on the bus today and one of the loading screens wouldn't stop...loading. I turn it off completely and turn it back on, with UMD in it and it won't go past the opening screen, the Sony Computer Entertainment logo flashes across the screen but then it goes to the wavy screen and stays there. The waves are moving slowly and there's the little round loading thing in the bottom corner but that's it. If I turn it on without a game in, it starts fine. Put a UMD in, the little logo shows up in the bottom right corner, but the game thing never shows up under the game tab. Any help at all would be appreciated in how to resolve this issue. This: Psp not reading UMD try this!/accident... | PlayStation® Community Forums isn't helping by the way.

Edit: If it helps, taking the UMD out while it's trying to load the home screen causes it to load instantly (it's not the UMD, it does it with others as well) and I'm running official firmware 5.50

try to clean the laser or replace the umd drive

ps: what model psp do you have?

1001. I'm trying to figure out how to clean the laser, not much room in there. My friend's 2000 Darth Vader model has tons of room to get in there and clean the laser, but this is a tight fit....


Edit: Managed to get a microfiber cloth down in there, cleaned it, works fine.
