In all honesty...It's the same exact way in the PC world too.
Buy a computer that is ahead of the rest and it will last 6 + years. Been there done that.
IT's good advice to anyone looking for a computer.

My pc...I made it about 2 years ago.....if not longer and it still rivals the majority of PCs being sold today.

Windows 7 Professional 64bit
Ubuntu 9.???
Asus p5k3 delux MOBO
intel core 2 quad q6600 2.4ghz @ 3.0ghz Very stable
4 gig DDR3
1.6 TB hard drive space
ATI HD 4870
2 TV Tunners
550W psu
26"monitor

In all honesty....nothing seems to slow it down.

Now my roommate on the other hand bought a Dell from Walmart around the same time and it barely runs in comparison to mine and has broken down twice now.

I fully expect my PC to last me another 2 to 4 years before I upgrade it. Well, I might update the video card in a year or two....or buy a second one to run it on crossfire, but it's not like I am buying an entire computer again. :)

Just about to build my new machine with i7- build log will follow soon :)

I think OSX, Ubuntu and Win7 will make a very nice triple-boot system indeed...

Are you sure you want the I7? I have seen in some cases where the I5 can rival it...especially if you OC it

Just trying to get you your bigest bang for your buck:)

Asus F8Va 14'' laptop: 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, ATI HD3650 1Gb

A very snappy machine. I often connect it to my 24'' full HD monitor when I'm working (mostly programming) or watching movies.

And this is the actual computer, the chassi being an Antec Nine Hundred. The LED-fans are brighter IRL, the camera flash just makes them appear dim. There is also a window on the side, but I couldn't get a good shot at it. I took this chassi mainly because of the cooling and airflow, not for the looks.

got the same case as you got, all for the cooling, with spec below CPU never goes above 40 c.
playing anything with graphics wound up a bit. Got a ps3 and everyone says how good they are for graphics, pc's will always piss all over them, lol

asus striker ii formula motherboard
intel 2 duo 2.4ghz clocked to 3.2ghz
ge-force 8800gs alpha dog edition x2 SLI (clocked )
Crosair 750w PSU
artic 7 CPU cooler
LG Blu-Ray/HD DVD drive
another 2 more fans, lol
3 WD HDD - 250g, 320g, 500g

P.S the asus striker ii formula is a bad board, data transfer is never rite on them...

Thinking of selling pc-----------UK, West sussex

Well, I have two hard drives running, one with Windows 7 on and one with Mac osx, it's a hackintosh build.

And before people start flamming, I purchased a genuine version of mac osx before I installed the hackintosh version so it's not illegal, just against apples terms and conditions. It's runs like a dream though, since the specs are about the equivalent of a mac pro, minus the i7

Oh, ok.

BTW, Mac Pro use Intel Xeon.
IMac use i7.

Still, the Apple license states that it is illegal to run the OS on a non Mac system. I think that Apple should let people install the OS on any computer, I find that statement pretty lame.

But I do think it's okay for them to prevent other companies of selling Mac clones.

If that's a picture of your computer, you got ripped off... The IBM 5150 is supposed to be capable of 4.77MHz, meaning yours is like a hundred thousand times slower than it should be.

ARE YOU SERIOUS IM GETTING MY MONEY BACK all $3,000 of it
