Yeah, the driver sends a HV pulse when the tube is connected. The tube does not like this when it is already energized so it deposits material on the glass and can burn through the glass tube. Tape in the wires for good measure. I would hate to see that touch the computer case or a board and fry it! Hope it helps! F

I removed the fried cathode and threw it away after i noticed it smelling of burning, and barely working, unless I wiggled the wire. The second one is probably mourning the loss of its brother, but at least its connection seems to be secure and it's working. I should get my camera in a few days, probably Thursday. Then will you REALLY see what a big monitor is.... not those measly 24" ones people are so fond of ;D

Personally, unless you get a 30" PC Monitor, not a TV, I don't like it, TV is way to low resolution for me, I love my Crysis in 1920x1200!

I paid the high price for this computer because I'm planing to keep it for 6 or 8 years. That's always what I do. I take them very powerful, and keep them twice as long instead of choosing less performance and lifetime.

I like Macs because I can get the best, and so it takes a long time before the computer becomes out-dated.

The previous Mac, that I replaced with this one, (Mac G5) had lasted me 6 years, I changed it because it used the old IBM processors and so I couldn't upgrade to the new OS.
