Wazza. I'm looking for an 800-1000 lumen flashie. I know that's quite a lot. It seems that SSC's deliver some nice-sounding specs at a good price. I'm considering buying this 900-lumen off DX. I realise how big or unsightly it is.

Does anyone have experience with the technology, similar flashies, is there one you would recommend over this? I am willing to spend an extra $30 max if there is a decent improvement.

Would it be worth polishing the frosted reflector ala HID Warrior (i recall you get ~+40k lux by doing that O.O)?

These might be alternatives:

The one that's growing on you is the one my buddy bought. It's not 900 lumens (at least not in the main beam) however with all the light spillage you see a lot more around the main beam, which is actually better IMO. Makes a great bike light for the money. And if you have 18650 batteries and charger already it's a no-brainer.

Those ssc p7 lights are scams. Don't buy them. They are rated at 900 lumens and only put out ~300 lumens in reality.
Wait for a semi-reputable company to manufacture them or buy one of the HID torches.
this is a nice HID light for the price and it doesn't have one of those horrible frosty reflectors.

The best cree flashlight for the money is this.
You can get 400+lumens for $42.

Sweet, thanks a bunch. Could I commission someone on CPF to make me a wicked torch killer? [smiley=evil.gif] Sounds bitchin'.
