My dad got a D300 last week, and it is so intuitive that I can use it, and I had no prior knowledge!

Here's a photo I took with my Nikon D90:

EDIT: My lens is an 18-55mm, not designed for macro. Pretty nice, huh?

Although I don't like the focusing there very much (though I don't know what compression you used there), I have to say that's some AWESOME colour reproduction.

Compression=MS Paint. I'm lazy. The actual photo looks a lot better, color and all. I didn't mess with the white balance or anything, that's just a standard photo.

What's wrong with the focusing? I tried to focus to that depth of field intentionally. I also have shots that are similar, but with a different depth of field, and they didn't look so nice.

Compression=MS Paint.

Ohh...NOT good :(

As I didn't know you used MSPaint to compress it I thought you didn't focus the flower well enough, leaving the center of the picture (flowers) out of focus by a tiny bit. But the lossy jpg compression in MSPaint sucks so bad it should be the problem.

Sorry if I sound offending, I'm too strict with photographs :p

First picture I took with my D90. Macro.

I'm not going to lie: I'm not the best photographer. I started about 3 months ago and I'm still learning my D90 inside-out. It's a wonderful camera, and even my friend (who is a professional photographer) uses one.

I'm 100% decided. Now I've just gotta get around 6000 pesos to get it :p

Personally, I'm a Canon man but I'm liking the look of this Nikon.

Two things I've always felt higher end DSLRs have lacked?

1. Is the video mode. Now, obviously, available in the D90, and...

2. Live view LCD. Now available on some of the more specialised Canons, (astronomy tailored. Can't remember model)

I think these things were avoided as a kind of snobbery and viewed as, 'lowering the brand'. They are, at the end of the day, nice to have but not a necessity of an SLR. Ultimately, if you don't know why you need a DSLR, you probably don't need a DSLR.

Looking forward to being supercritical of some of your shots Niko, ;D

Sorry, Niko, but here's your only alternative.  Save it to your computer if you want and resize it there.  I use MS Paint because I am too lazy to make an online account, and my parents are paranoid about them getting stolen.

EDIT: This is only a 6-megapixel shot. I was running out of space on my memory card because I forgot to clear it, so compression was in order.

Me too, the more you tell me what I'm doing wrong or you would like being improved the better my pictures will turn up in the end!

rocket, thanks for the picture, I'm trying to view it but my internet connection is playing games with Alf so I don't know when it's coming back 100%.

EDIT: Seen it now, much better. Same opinion about the focusing though, I'm assuming you shot the picture with your bare hands (ISO is at 200 there), didn't you?

All right Niko. That's just one of hundreds, by the way. This outing a couple of weekends ago was my first real chance to test out my camera, and that was a group of shots I randomly chose because they looked nice in thumbnail form.

Hey Mark, I'm all about constructive criticism, sorry if any of this sounds like an insult to your works of art. Of course that's only one, I'm sure you got many other great pictures :)

If you need a good program to resize your images, GiMP is a completely free image program with almost all the same capabilities as photoshop. Simply load your image into it, then go to Image, Scale Image, type "800" into the width box, click OK, click file, save. A "JPEG Options" window will come up allowing you to set the quality. MSPaint always saves at something ridiculously low like 60, so set it to 90 or above and your image will come out crisp and shiny, without those disgusting white borders that mspaint likes to throw in.

I actually have Photoshop Elements 6.0...I'm just too lazy to use it! (I don't edit any of my photos, actually, based on personal beliefs- I think that if I edit my photos after taking them, that removes much of the natural element from them, and it makes it seem like you are trying to sculpt the world around you instead of form your art to the real world; postimpressionism vs. impressionism.)

Anyway Niko, I don't mind your criticisms at all...matter of fact, they help a lot. But I like to post my side as well so that it is more evident the effect I was trying to capture.
