G'day,
Been hiting the soldering PCB kits latelty :) so heres something i bought and made:

Its a Magnetic Levitator.

It works by having a magnet below a electromagnet.

the electromagnet repels the magnet and the magnet is attracted to the bolt going through the coil.

You tune the field strength of electromagnet so it is perfectly opposing the magnets field.

There is a power LED (blue) and a Feedback LED (green)

a Hall effect sensor is used for feedback to a comparator and adjusts the pulse to the coil.

a Pot is also in there controlling the feedback.

Here's a video i made (mind the ghetto stand build) lifting a spray pack lid about 15 grams.


i bought the basic kit from here and made it up :)

O man what a ghetto set up you have there, a ruler ? are you serious a ruler :na: JK

Pretty cool device, could you step it up so it can lift a quad :crackup:

I wonder just how much you really could step it up :thinking:

use that part for the controller, get a really big power supply 300 amps
and some heavy duty mosfets and wind a really big coil out of some solid
conductor 10 gauge wire and lets just see what happens :eg:

We use big fuckers in the scrap yard at work, wouldn't you like one of them at home.

Sounds like a plan, it would be funny seeing something that big being run of this simple circuit lol

I think it would be cool as shi*t to be able to lift your quad off the front of your trailer with one of these and not even be touching the quad :crackup:

A set up like a engine hoist or something close to that with a levatator head instead of a hook :D

We'll call em PyroFiddys now you think of how to market them :crackup:

Bahaha PyroFiddys now thats a catchy name!

The size of the neodymium magnet you would need to be coupled to the quad would be stupidly big,heavy and hard to remove and if you got any part of you stuck between it and a metal peice, you would be killed to death!

I seen some of them GIANT neo magnets on Myth Busters, Jamie used them to hold a gun and then he used em for something else i can't remember...

hehe you see what i did there!

i must look up this episode on the youtubes :D

I have a better levitator coming, and some 1" square Neodymium magnets which should be good to play with.

Fiddy definitely wins the award for posting some of the coolest shit on LPF this month I've seen in awhile! Because of you I'm researching plasma speakers and now looking into some opposing magnetic contraptions. Way to put my laser work on hold man.... :crackup:

Awesome ghetto rig though, I owe you like 3 or 4 reps but LPF says I gotta spread around the love first ;) :beer:

Good stuff! they are great kits to play around with and teach you a bit too!
