Wow! That's some amazing speed! I think i'll have to invest in an SSD...

Nice... I've been planning on adding a SSD to my iMac, which would make it the most powerful iMac possible...

Although the RAM disk I'm running for my server is getting 4GB/s read/write speeds, do I win? I had to do something with my 12GB of RAM.

This reminds me that I plan on parting with my Unibody MacBook 17" Core2 and upgrade to an i7 with 8Gb ram and 512 SSHD.

Nice config for your computer!

Adding an SSD on ANY laptop is a must, especially now, since SSD's are getting cheap.

I dunno guys, I still don't think buying an SSD is a good idea. For the cost of 60GB SSD, you might as well get yourself like 500GB of normal HDD.

And you sacrifise hard drive space (which gets filled up so fast anyway) for what, your OS loading up 3 seconds faster?

I literally cannot think of one practical advantage of having an SSD in the computer.
Loadings in games are heavily depended on amount of RAM you've got, changing into SSD will only make it somewhat faster, which does not matter anyhow - it's not the loading in the game that I love to watch.

Well, when I play promod on call of duty, I need to get in fast for the sniper since there is only 1 sniper per team. (promod is what they use in competitions)

Ofcourse, im not going to spend 100 dollars to get a sniper in a game, that will be mentally retarted.

Since I always move big folders and install software, it's nice to have it install 5 or 10 times faster

Also, they dont create heat which is a plus.

44 seconds, are you kidding me? What kind of operating system is that?! Where'd you pull that info?

My PC back home boots up from dead start to desktop ready in like 20 seconds.

I don't need it to boot faster. If you cannot wait 15 seconds for your computer to finish booting, then here's my advice - go out and get sh*t done so you have the god damn time to sit at the computer.

New =/= better.

What do you do when the HDD starts getting full though? I agree that its not the best thing to do by buying SSD right now, but if something helps a lot, you sacrifice money even if you know they going to be cheap in some years. Say, Im a student and need fast read and write to get my files here and there. If I need the ssd right now, I will buy it. But that's just my opinion :)

If your 500 GB starts getting full, you buy another 500GB HDD for $100, not 60 GB SSD for $300.

NOTHING can convince me otherwise.

I'm a student too. And a computer nut. Not once in my life have I ever said "Boy, I could sure use an exeptionally fast hard drive right now".

During LAN file transfers, speed is determined by Ethernet port. During wireless internet, it's internet connection bandwidth + wireless speed.

Computer's choke points are always GPU speed and motherboard chipset capabilities in gaming configurations.
By buying an SSD, it's like buying huge KTP crystal to improve your 100mW green pen output. It's not the hard drive - or crystal, that you need to worry about. It's more important stuff that make the performance. You think you're improving something because manufacturers find a new way to milk money out of customers.

They convince you that you need to have the expensive storage device and it'll all run magically faster. And it works because you can see the results - wow, OS starts in like 5 seconds. If you didn't notice, that's exactly where the advantages stop, the rest is filled by your justification of spending $300 on something you do not need.

Besides, if you're so worried about a boot time, just leave your computer on through the night. It's a laptop. I had mine run for weeks non-stop.
