Talking I am building a new gaming PC :D

I am finally making it a reality, I may have made a withdrawal of some money from my 401k to make it happen

So far i have bought the case, PSU and another SSD:

Thermaltake GT 10 Full size ATX case (This thing is AWESOME) --> https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16811133188

CORSAIR RMx Series RM750X 750W 80 PLUS GOLD Haswell Ready Full Modular

Samsung 500GB SSD

And next on the purchase list:

Intel Core i5-7600K Kaby Lake Quad-Core 3.8 GHz LGA 1151 91W

EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition

MSI Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON LGA 1151 Intel Z270 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Motherboard

Thermaltake NiC C5 (CLP0608) 120mm Untouchable CPU Cooler

And for RAM my buddy is hooking me up with 64GB of DDR4 for free from a nice hookup he has via getting stuff that gets replaced at his place of work, along with a couple more 120Gb SSDs, and a led monitor -dunno what size.

Not the absolute best of everything, but for my gaming needs, will do quite nicely

Great start of a plan. I do reccomend to try and use an M2 Sata for your main storage( boot)... just running SSDs is great, but M2 sata is up to 3x the speed. Samsung makes a great M2 sata card (950 series)
that can read/write +2Gbyte/sec.
Samsung is personally my favourite SSD manufacturer!

Looks good but damn that case is enormous! I never understood the appeal of full tower cases, it seems so unwieldy to me. I have a mini-tower ATX now but my next PC will probably be ITX sized

Its not that big, its barely bigger than my mid sized tower I am using now. I just love having lots of space in my cases. This one delivers. And lots of goodies too.

Update on build, i have everything but RAM, waiting on my friend for some.

Well, Corsair makes some big nice cases for M-ATX, like the 350D
If you're not going to make an SLI there's just no point in buying an ATX Mobo, any M-ATX will do the job perfectly.
For SSD's I recommend you getting a 960EVO, Samsung has made a really good job with them.

In terms of CPU, the 7600K oc's like hell, I've managed to get a test gold sample that makes 5.4Ghz at just 1.41V, but needs delid and a good AiO to be fully stable. If you have a great CPU Cooler you will be able for sure to reach 5Ghz! I'm using atm a 7700K that reaches 5Ghz with just 1.296Vcore (the mobo has a 10-phase circuit, it's the Strix Z270G), not a gold sample but definitely on the good half (delidded and with an H100iV2 I get a max of 75 degrees in 1h of RoG realbench, so without delid it could easily hit 95 degrees, keep that in mind, Kaby is HOT).

For the rest, a very balanced system, but for mobo's if you are going to OC I recommend 1000 times Asus over MSI, they have better VRM's and a better BIOS (Farly more tunable).

im not really worried about OC. And I researched for many weeks over mobo's almost got an asus, then an asrock, then found this msi carbon, and really liked it. I am stoked, gonna be building this very soon. My old machine is starting to show its age... and I cant wait for new everything

Dimensions (H x W x D)23.00" x 11.10" x 23.20"Weight28.00 lbs. That is a HUGE case. Aside from that it's a good build. While most people (myself included) enjoy playing with OCing processor, videocard, even ram, the reality is, it's usually not worth the effort, and that I5 will be more than adequate for work and gaming. If it comes with a stock intel cooler, you can save yourself a bit and just stick with it for a while. Just use a good thermal paste when mounting.

Also having a big case, often leads to it being actually harder to keep cool. You'll have tons of room to expand though.

Yea I am pretty stoked. The cpu didnt come with a cooler, I bought a thermaltake cooler though. and Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. I wanted a full size case and thats what I got Side by side next to my mid size case its not a huge difference

I mounted the mobo and psu last night, and hooked up case wires(usb, power switch, ect) waiting on ram and a buddy of mine to come over to help with setting the cpu.(I dont have very steady hands, requested his expertise for this matter) I am going out to the Gf's this weekend, so build will have to wait till Monday or Tuesday to finish

Yeah I just bought this bad boy last year.

https://www.amazon.com/GL502VS-DB71-Full-HD-Gaming-GTX1070-i7-6700HQ/dp/B01LYOCZ7Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487374119&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=gl502vs&psc=1

I highly recommend getting the SSD+HDD combo because the SSD writes/copies data EXTREMELY FAST. Also the i7 is the way to go because you will startup, shutdown, and install update much much quicker as well. So I am a firm believer that a gaming PC should have the following minimum as of 2017. (Trust me on this because you want to spend the money now so you have a computer that will play new high end graphics games for at least the next 10 years, rather than buying new components every 5 years)

-Intel i7 CPU
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
-SSD+HDD
-16GB RAM
->120Hz Monitor

Disagree about the i7 for a gaming build. i5 in many situations even outperforms the i7 for gaming. Personally I do prefer the i7 as well, and use them for my home builds, but strictly for gaming, and on a budget, the i5 is great.

Especially with intel now teasing their next chip. At this point I'd also consider the 1060 for 1080p gaming, and upgrade in a year instead when the next nvidia cards drop.

I5 only outperforms the I7 in games that use less than 8 threads, that are actually decreasing. Near every single AAA launched in the last 3 years will get better FPS with an I7, specially if playing at higuer resolutions. And some ones, like BF1 or GTA V will even make use of 12 threads, which make the 5820K better for gaming that it was years before.
And, of course, you can disable the HT of an I7 through BIOS so you'll end up with an I5 if needed 4 strong cores for some games, but you can't enable HT on an i5 :P

And yes, I agree completely, for 1080p atm the best thing is going to a cheap 6gb GTX 1060 or a second hand GTX 970 till Volta arrives, it's expected by the start of 2018 so... less than a year.

Default Re: I am building a new gaming PC :D

On my budget the i7 wasnt doable, But I got a 7th gen i5, so I am ok with that. My mobo does support 6th and 7th gen i7's as well, so I may upgrade down the road, not too worried about it tho. Also I am not getting a new monitor any time soon. I have a perfectly good samsung led 23inch monitor. Ill use it till it dies or or a really good sale happens for a better one.

And i already know all about the wonder of SSD's. my current 6 year old machine has one in it now that I upgraded to a few years back. And all I am putting in the new rig is SSD. platter- no ty.

I got everything on hand now, should have build complete either tonight or tomorrow

I got 16gb of corsair vengeance ram, ddr4, 3200mhz

750watt corsair modular psu

evga gtx 1070 black edition

samsung evo 500gb ssd

so stoked to get this up and running and get fallout 4 and replay it with this great setup. ive only played fo4 on ps4, so this will be super cool. Also i have yet to play Doom 2016, because I didnt want to disgrace that epic game by playing a console version, and i didnt want to play it on anything less than ultra settings.

Also i got 2 free games with my mobo and vid card from newegg, For Honor and Ghost Recon Wildlands. I have been hearing great things about For Honor. looking forward to that

With that setup you can also do a TON of modding to FO4, which can provide a completely different feel to the game. I used some jungle overlay mod, that added a ton of "life" and liveliness to the game... not really a fan of desolation. It's not something that my previous card, the gtx460, looked at, made some noise at, and just crashed

Companies are definitely starting to make use of HT, but that has not been the case for too long, and with most games, they try to offload as much as possible, to the now typically more powerful gpu. Interesting idea to turn of HT via bios to see what it will do.

Sweet, I am excited. I completely cleared FO4 on ps4, including all DLC, so I am looking forward to some mods and taking the playstyle of the game a little different than before. I like the desolation, the gang over at bethesda do a great job at the whole post-apoclyptic thing. I first got into fallout with fallout 3 for xbox 360, and logged about 3000 hours into that game, with about 5 play through's in various play styles. I almost always fall back on sniper builds, they are the most fun to me. Then I got New Vegas, and played the shit out of that as well, That game did the iron sights aiming so well, I was a pretty mean sniper with no VATS

Awesome! I really love building PCs. Definitely satisfying when they perform beautifully.

It's already been a long time since I last built one. Just been living with a laptop for the last few years. Definitely get the itch for an awesome gaming setup a lot though.

Probably going to build another PC in the next year or two, but it's going to be a workstation that'll probably break the bank for a gaming build.
