Damn, now I'm jealous, nice sparks already! Now it's a race to finish my current project and start on a DIY tesla coil. Screw you Fiddy for having all the cool stuff! :D

Little update,

I could only reach ~11" to a strike target, so i went hunting for whats wrong, it thought it was just fine tuning the primary coil but after changing the turns half a turn either way i wasn't seeing as bigger gain's as expected.

I changed the battery in the interrupter module which helped a little bit, but the biggest burden on the system was the RCA cable that runs from the board to the interrupter module. it was about 1.5m long, i had a 5m car audio cable on hand and boy what a change it made, the cables CSA must be soo much larger, i gained 6" on the output streamers just by changing the RCA cable even though its 3.5m longer! WTF!

The way i see it is, its like your MP3 player plugged into your amplifier, if the line signal isn't as high as what the amplifier was built for, no matter how much you turn up the amplifier it wont be as loud as it should.

So now im looking at 17" discharges :D

I think i might make my own cable out of some uber cable thats not as long but the same CSA to hopefully see more gain's :D

Could be interference too mate, make sure the shielding in the cable is nicely grounded, low quality cables probably pick up the EMP like anything :D

Also, try and keep your breakout point as small as possible, otherwise it changes capacitance of the topload pretty drastically. I found quite a significant difference in spark length depending on what I had on top :D

True that, the one it come with is rubbish.

Interesting, im using a 3mm stainless welding rod with a spiked end. it fell off once (when the power wasn't on) and landed like a spear in the wood floor boards in my shed lol

Given the noncontinuous nature of a DRSSTC you may want to use fibre optic linking between the interupter and the driver board so electrical resistance of the umbillical is no longer an issue. All it takes is a diode and a phototransistor and some fibre. You add a lot of safety that way too, and it prevents a feedback loop problem (f0 getting coupled to the low freq interuption, which drastically reduces output).

I added about 2cm of a trace to the modulation input to my main SSTC's driver and it was enough to pick up the f0, this basically interupted the coil out of phase with the drive signal and reduced output to less than 2% normal.

Ohh and that breakout point has too much capacitance and will detune your coil when the streamer capacitance is added in to the equation. Use a shorter rod (no more than 3cm) or a much skinnier wire instead for improved results. Also limit it to a single break point instead of two.

Way to go on the build btw! I don't stop around LPF very often anymore but I still frequent 4HV, so you caught my attention there.

EVR is a top notch guy, he's been extremely helpful and offers great kits. I got my oscope from him for a total steal.

Now I am itching to build another Tesla Coil. this time a DRSSTC....
A a freaking huge RSGTC. Whatever I'm holding you responsible for whatever crazy thing I build.

.... currently building a 20KV tazer from a under powered (6V) chinese knockoff I found in Khaosan road. Doing some Doctoring on it. Runs a Cockcroft Walton (CW) multiplier circuit

Sparkgap is ~1.8cm (20Kv).

Running 2 18650, Li-ion cells for 8.4V

Yay! yeah blame me :D:D

I want to build a SSTC (or a RSGTC but dont have the room :( ) but ive committed to building 2 more DRSSTC's :D

Just quietly atm, ive built 2x taser's im doing the review now :D :shhh::shhh::shhh:
