Hey everyone!

Long time, no talk. I've been really busy lately with having a job over the summer, running an online store, and now going to a residential high school. Lots of stuff going on!

Anyways, I just wanted to come back and let all of you guys know about my new Indiegogo campaign. I'm trying to raise money for Google Glass, and here's why:

The residential high school I'm going to is the North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM). When I got there, one of the teachers had a pair of Glass, and let me try it. I had used Glass before, but just for a second. The teacher let me use it for a little while and play around with it. After just a few minutes, I recognized a ton of potential in Glass around campus. An infinite number of possibilities flooded my mind for ways to improve the school's application process, ease the nerves of new parents sending their kids off to school, and even an app that could help out students everywhere. I made a pretty big list of ideas I had, and set off to buy a pair of Glass.

I was accepted to the Explorer program a while back, but I was saving up for a car, and buying Glass just wasn't even an option. Now that I'm at NCSSM, and I've used Glass, I see so much potential and don't want to let all of it slip away. So I have started this campaign :)

There are lots of different pledging amounts and rewards set for the campaign, several of which are very cool. You don't want to miss out! Plus, you'll be helping a student who can help out all of the other students :D

Any pledge amount is greatly appreciated. If you can't pledge, I'd still appreciate maybe a social media shout-out to spread the word!!

Thanks to everyone in advance for any contributions! :thanks:

You sure you can't get the university to fund you one of those?

Seriously just submit your list of ideas and reasons and ask for one.

Ask the professor who has Glass on how to approach it and who to contact. Any self-respecting school will gladly fund something like that just to stick "Our student first to develop amazing stuff" on local paper.

I thought about that, but I don't want Glass to become property of the school. I would feel limited in what I could do with it, and where I could go with it.

However, if the campaign is unsuccessful, I guess my only option will be going to the school.

Have you considered a small part time job (1-4 days a week)? Or do you already have an income and saving for a car?

Yep - I had a part-time job as well as an online store (http://www.adamsvinyl.com) for about a year before I started at NCSSM. They don't allow students to have jobs at the school, so I had to quit both :(
When I did have the jobs, 90% of my income went towards buying a car.

Oh ok. Bummer they have that "No jobs allowed" rule. I am studying while working 1-4 days a week and I don't think it effects school very much. I just have a lot less free time.

Yeah it does suck... we can't have cars either. But I see where they're coming from; it's a residential high school, so they want you focusing on school work 24/7. Honestly, I don't even think I have time for a job!

Are you already a developer?

Trevor

I've started dipping my toe in the water. I'm actually working on a mock-up of my app as we speak, which should be in the campaign description within the hour.

EDIT: Mock-up added!

You may want to learn how to actually develop what you want to develop before you try to get people to fund you.

Until you actually prove to people you have the both the drive and the ability to innovate with Glass, the crowdfunding is just for a really expensive toy.

That's a very good point, but development isn't the main focus of the project. The main focus (about 80% of my listed ideas) is the video projects. I'm proficient in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop; I have lots of experience, including editing/producing a school TV show, with video production.

As for the drive, I was hoping to prove that (at least a little) by listing my past experience; I started a fairly successful online business last February, and I held a part-time job from October 2014 to when I left for NCSSM.

Best of luck on getting Glass. :D There was another member on here who had a similar fundraiser going for Glass not that long ago. Can't remember whether he succeeded or not.

I have never actually had the chance to try Glass, but I have always kind of wanted to see someone get a raw egg thrown at their face while wearing Glass and have it record a first person perspective video of the event. If it could be done without damaging Glass lol. :D

Thank you! :D I think I saw that thread too, and IIRC, he got around 80% of the funds from Indiegogo.

Glass is so awesome when you try it. And that thing with the egg... I think it falls under the $50 pledge reward! ;)

Any and all pledge amounts are greatly appreciated :)

Based on what you listed, it sounds like what is actually needed to complete your projects is a rental of a basic video camera. For your PoV stuff, probably just a GoPro.

I understand wanting glass, but it appears that you want a shiny bauble and are trying to come up with compelling reasons to have other people buy it for you. :p

I agree with Trevor, it sounds like a Sony Action Cam would be better for your purposes. It will have better video quality than glass, and it's very affordable.

I actually have a Canon Vixia HF20 and a GoPro already. I just feel like Glass is better suited to the application for getting up close shots of special events, robot building, etc. Plus I can start developing with Glass along with the video projects.

Trevor, it's not that I'm trying to have people buy it for me. If I had the money, I'd buy it myself, but I had to quit my job(s) to go to NCSSM.. and if I still had my jobs, I would be saving up for a car. Like I said earlier, it's a combination of everything I could do with Glass that makes me want it, and I think some other people may want to help me out. :)
