Meh.... I'm not a huge fan of these fancy colors and gadgets, I like my good old Win 95 theme :)

Is it any good though? Or is it like Vista? ;)

From what I read, the only huge difference is that 8 has native support for touch interfaces, and gestures.

Also a hybrid shutdown mode, which imho is not very different from the regular sleep mode in win 7...

Thats an accurate analogy ARG haha.

Whats it like? ermmm its like using a huge mobile phone...you can install apps (what we used to call programs!) but you can, with a single click, get back to your desktop.
It seems stable and runs nice and quick but it will take a lot of getting used to.
I think the thought behind it is, for the average user, there are standard everyday things we do like surf the web, read/ write docs ect, and other quick and easy things, and these are the "tiles" that are on your home screen.

I'm not sold on it i'll be honest.

It's beautiful, but what can it do that Windows 7 can't?

The real question is: "what really useful things can it do that XP can't do better ?" (and the answer is "nothing" ..... but don't say that to Redmond guys, otherwise they get depressed, LOL)

It's no doubt like every other Version of Windows....
MicroSoft expects the paying customer to debug their
Software for them...

Then you go to the local MS Clinic to get a band-aid (patch)

When I read the thread title.. my mind automatically went to the gutter... sorry Ped.

In any case unless there are major improvements in security or they change that disgraceful layout I'm not switching from Windows 7 ultimate.

I second that....this is absolutely the ugliest windows i've ever seen!
Good that my Win7 Ultimate runs very smooth on my old breadbox :D

^ LOL :p

Well, until they become stable, affordable and work-oriented (and "normal" to use) like the actual XP, i don't switch from XP to ANY other micro$oft OS, no matter how much "bells and whistles" they place over them for cover the bugs and holes :p :D

I like Windows 7, but I also turn off all the gidgets, wizmos, and wadgets. I square the corners of my windows (hate rounded edges), but then I pretty much try to forget about the interface tweaks, and minimize any fancy graphics.

Windows 7 is more stable than XP. I skipped Vista, and I'm pretty brutal with killing background processes and daemons. That said, I'm comfortable at this stage with the notion that Windows 7 is the more stable OS, finally, as compared to XP.

But my big complaint with 7, is that they try to make it "easy" to use for even the most imbecilic technophobic nincompoop. They reorganize menus, remove options, take away granular control over settings, and try to make the whole OS experience more like browsing a website by the Food Network. This really pisses me off, as someone who has spent the better part of my life (since Win 3) becoming proficient with the OS. Any reasonably competent human being should be able to comprehend the basics of Windows. The fact that some adults are apparently stumped by an interface that 3rd graders can master, is no reason to dumb down the OS for the rest of us.

I fear that this Windows 8 GUI is an attempt to take this paradigm even further. Instead of forcing old lazy Luddites to use some neurons, they're forcing everyone else to waste theirs.

Yup i cant rep you either rhd

But how right are you! , As soon as Vista came out I got it, our computer company were beta testers, ironically Vista's beta worked better than the RC, they added so much crap to it!. But yes Windows 7 is very good I begrugingly admit. And if the Win 8 RC is anything like this beta i have, i'll be skipping it.
