At school I'm building a custom FPV (first person view) aircraft as a project.

I forgot to take actual photos of the aircraft, but its a hobbyking EPP-FPV

1.8 meter wingspan
..big. lol

I did snap a picture of all the components (minus the buckboost psu for the electronics since it hasn't arrived yet, as with the gyro's and some of the sensors)

Anyway, the final capabilities of this thing (with all its equipment) are the following:

Range: 30km range Dragonlink UHF radio

Flight time: EST 30-60 minutes depending on if I fly with a lead foot or not ;)

Flight ceiling: EST 2 miles, maybe higher

Flight range: No idea, but should be over 10 miles

Power pack: 2x 4s 5000mAh 20c batteries, 1x 3s 2600mAh (backup battery)

Redundancy circuit: Rapid switch to backup power pack in sudden or low voltage situation. Reduced power but enough to get it home or land safely.

Power supply: Buck boost 3A DC-DC

Speed controller: Eflite 60A

Motor: 26 Outrunner

Prop: 11x7 supposed to be 10x6 but I got a way overspec motor.. ;)

DOST+ V2 OSD system:

GPS
Autopilot
-Failsafe Autopilot return to home mode
The autopilot can be programmed via google earth to follow a set path wherever you want it to go.
Waypoint programmable flight path (like a UAV)
Altitude, Barometer, Temp, Speed, Compass, Current, and GPS sensors.
On screen display to overlay critical info into the video feed

Camera: CCD 600 line camera with tilt
Video TX: 1000mw 1.2ghz with Dipole Antenna
Video RX: Patch antenna with diversity controller
Video screen: Dunno yet. Either goggles or a laptop with composite in.

...other stuff.

Yep! Thats it! I've modified it a bit so I can fit a 11" prop and the servos moved to the tail so they don't snap if the landing is hard. If the thin foam joints on the surfaces prove to be a problem I'll slice them off and replace them with real hinges.

Yay updates! Its nearly complete! Just need to finish the tail up, and then it will take its maiden flight, and then the fun part of putting all the electronics in begins.

EDIT: I dunno why the photos are suddenly so big. ._. Sorry!

XD I was thinking about firing little model rocket engines with fins attached to them. It could do it!

Anyway, I snapped a picture of it with the wing on!

I'm not impressed - no rockets *grin*

put into perspective, its a big bugger eh. mabye we can put it on the back of the 1/5 RC truck I'm getting and use that as the launch vehicle. What servos are you using on the wings?

Well we could strap it to my Baja-5B and launch it.. but frankly that's not necessary, lol. The thing is so overpowered (engine thrust is about 3X what Hobbyking specified as 'good') it should be able to be dropped and then climb by itself essentially.

But imagine it launching when the Baja does this: (took this pic of mine a few years ago I think, with a crappy camera.)

Yeah, I've seen that WASP thing. Looks awesome! Dunno how I'd get it, though. lol

I can make up for not having that by mounting model rockets and firing them from the wings, right?

Ahuh! that looks familiar - Mines will also a 5b chassis, but has a truck body. The store is selling them prebuilt, but I'll tear it down and rebuild with some beefier drivetrain components. It comes with a 30.5CC engine stock, so I doubt the plastic clucth carrier will hold up to it LOL

Anyway sorry for sidetracking the FPV aircraft thread. Gonna have a look at the wasp now :)

edit: wasp thing looks cool. Model rockets are too big - go for bottle rockets - you'll get more shots that way ;)

I once had a little model rocket that was only 10 inches long :p

But bottle rockets work too. Though I'm hesitant to strap fireworks to my plane. XD
