G'day,

I know there are a few Tesla coiliers on this forum and guys who like to play with high voltage and gadgets and ive been doing lots of tesla coil stuff so ive decided to make and sell plasma speaker kits.

What is a plasma speaker you say?

A plasma speaker takes a audio signal from a device such as a mp3 player and amplify's it into a high voltage signal at the same frequency, this gives off a electrical arc around 15-30mm tall and amplifies the audio signal, the arc will produce the amplified audio!

What can a plasma Speaker do besides make high voltage audio?

It can excite the gas in fluro, HeNe tubes, nixie tubes, neon tubes, plasma balls and many other gas filled tubes. They will light up i your hand when near the plasma speaker!

Some video's of mine:

What it looks like:

plasmaspeakercoils.jpg

Whats i will include:

  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
  • All PCB Components
  • Primary & Secondary Form
  • Primary & Secondary Wire
  • 1m 3.5mm Audio cable
  • Cooling Fan
  • Instructions

What you need to provide:

  • Good soldering skills and solder
  • basic tools
  • thermal paste
  • Glue
  • Winding jig (easy to make from scrap wood)
  • 24VDC 3.75A+ Power Supply.
Optional Extra's:

Pre-wound secondary
Assembled and tested PCB
Machined breakout point.

This is based on my plasma speaker but ive made some improvements:

1. Upgraded the primary coil board connections.
2. Heatsink for the voltage regulator.
3. Added terminal block for secondary mains ground connection.
4. Switch to turn fan on and off.
5. 40x40x10mm cooling fan and terminals
6. Bridge level power indicator LED.
7. Logic level power indicator LED.
8. Fan power indicator LED.

I have OshPark making 3 prototype boards at the moment they should be here next week.

I'm interested.

it will be helpful to see a picture of what's in the kit, so we will not be led to think all the pretty acrylic is included, too.

I saw some plasma speakers, once, at an audiophile trade show. they were big donut-shaped things that modulated the air inside the center. They sounded really good, but no low frequencies. It was then I learned what ozone smells like. :)

These seem more like baby Tesla coils than they do plasma speakers.

Sweet.

You will have to build you own acrylic case or similar, easiest way would be but the assembled PCB in s project box and mount the coil on top.

The PCB comes with 4x 10mm stand-off's and bolts so its no sitting on the ground.

Looks awesome man! :D

The machined breakout makes it look like you could just pick the thing up and stab someone with it :D

I'd be interested in one, but I'd want at least an assembled pcb and a pre-wound secondary.

How is the sound quality on these when compared to the regular loudspeakers?

The audio is very clear until you get low frequency bass which it doesn't like too much.

heres a question,

There are 3 indicator led's on the board for logic level power, bridge level power and fan power.

What 3 wavelength would you prefer to see in the kit out of 475nm, 527nm, 589nm or 624nm?

Little update, ive ordered some acrylic parts from a local plastic mob, a spacer that will position the secondary perfectly inside the primary and the circle on-top that holds the breakout point :D

All PCB components have arrived.

Im waiting on:

Prototype PCB's from OSHpark.
Primary wire from Hobby king.
Secondary wire and form from eBay.
3.5mm audio cables from eBay.

Stay tuned!

Hey guys,

got my piece's of acrylic back from the company who cut it!

plasmaspeakeraccrylic.png

Note, the secondary in this photo is from one of my personal tesla coils, the toroid will not work with this coil, the secondary in this photo is just used for a representation of what mine will look like because its a very close fit dimension wise. There will only be a 70mm x 4mm diameter spike exiting the top of the my kit which is included.

Stay tuned!

Are you saying the kit you are selling will generate a spark of 4mm?

Not bad.
